"Five British sailors make a furious attack on six French soldiers, grotesque and terrified creatures, whom the sailors humiliate and insult. Their officer (left), who holds a British flag, is threatened by a sailor with clenched fists, and excretes, terrified. A sailor with a scourge slashes the bared posteriors of a Frenchman who grovels on the ground, saying, "oh le pauvre Commandant"; he says, "Now foutre you'l take 2 Merchants Ships for a fleet of Men of War again". A Frenchman, nearly throttled by an angry sailor, cries "Ca-ira Ca-ira". A sailor pulls the queue of the drummer, to whom he offers a piece of tobacco, saying, "here you B--g--r heres a stale Quid for you Instead of Hartshorn". A sailor on the extreme right pulls the queue of a Frenchman and raises his club to strike; the latter says, "oh Diable we was Make de Dam Mistake Parblue". "Mrs. Clarke (right) sits triumphantly astride the upper end of a see-saw which is supported on an upholstered stool. The Duke of York (left), dropping his sword, falls headlong from the other end which rests on the ground. She waves her arms, pointing a derisive finger at the Duke, and sings: "Here I go up up up and there you go Down Down Downy, The game it is pretty well up, and so you must fall to the Grouny!" The Duke sings: "What a way for to serve your own Sweety, how could you vex your own Deary, If you had not thrown me quite down, you'd have had your 4 hundred a Yeary." On the ground are the Duke's cocked hat (left) and (right) a mitre, with a book, 'Ovid art of Love', and crosier (see British Museum satires no. 11227), with writing materials and papers: a bundle of 'Love Letters' (see British Museum satires no. 11228, &c.) tied like legal documents, against which is a door-plate inscribed 'for further particulars inquire within', a bundle docketed 'Account of Debts Gloucester' [Place, see British Museum satires no. 11222, &c], a paper headed 'To Col Wardle'. "A broadside satirising Robert Walpole with an etching in two parts. In the left-hand scene Frederick, Prince of Wales, stands with the Duke of Argyll and other gentlemen, pointing to the left where George II embraces Britannia. In the foreground, the grotesque figure of Walpole, wearing a coronet, kneels holding in five hands, bags of French and Spanish gold and another lettered, "I am Lord Corruption". Behind him stands his daughter, Lady Mary, toying with a coronet. On the ground beside Walpole, the French cock perches on the back of the exhausted Imperial Eagle, but the British lion watching the conflict growls, "Now I'm rousing". In the background, the white horse of Hanover kicks a man off a high rock; the man cries, "I'm lost"; a ship lies at anchor off Cartagena observed from another high rock to right by Admiral Vernon whose impetus towards the city is restrained by General Wentworth; below these two men sits Admiral Haddock chained to a rock (a reference to the limitation of his resources in dealing with the combined Spanish and French Mediterranean fleets).
