Description:
In Latin., Script: Written in neat gothic bookhand by a single scribe., Red and blue split initial, 10-line, at beginning of text (p. 11) with fine penwork flourishes within body and length of inner margin, in red, blue, and purple. Similar initials, 6- to 3-line, without penwork extensions, on pp. 68, 130, 284. Small initials, 5- to 2-line, alternating red with purple penwork and blue with red, throughout. Headings in red; running titles in red and blue; paragraph marks alternate red and blue., and Binding: Fifteenth century. Sewn on five double, tawed thongs laced into flush oak boards through tunnels in the edge and pegged with rectangular pegs. The back board is cracked and mended. The spine is square and lined with tawed skin. Plain, wound endbands sewn on twisted, tawed skin cores laced into the boards. Added embroidery is sewn through the cover and shows on the spine and the edge, with whip-stitching around the entire endband. Covered in kermes pink tawed skin with corner tongues. Two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins on the lower board. Five foliate bosses on each board. A pin, straps and two bosses wanting. Original front pastedown: incomplete alphabetical index, 14th century, of subjects from amor through uita (no entries for x). Original back pastedown, also contemporary with main text: fragment of a theological text on the biblical prophets, on recto; unfinished diagram of the books of the Bible, divided into categories in mandata diuisio, in exempla diuisio, in ammonitiones diuisio, in reuelationes diuisio (with material from Old Testament only), on verso.

In Latin., Script: copied by one hand in rounded Gothica Semitextualis Libraria with southern features, except ff. 154v-158v16, which are copied in an angular and bold Gothica Textualis Libraria., Red headings and paragraph marks. Red stroking of majuscules., and Binding: S. XIX (?) plain parchment binding over cardboard. On the flat spine the handwritten erroneous title “JOHANNES / DE / TURRECREMATA / FLOS THEOLOGIE”.

Description:
In Latin., Script: Copied by Jodocus Sparlützel in a single hand in Gothica Hybrida Libraria. The scribe is elsewhere given the name Jodocus Sparlützel (Swicker) de Wil., Decoration: Red stroking of the majuscules and red underlining. Red plain initials, normally 1-2 lines; the initial of the first lemma beginning with a given letter of the alphabet is larger (up to 7 lines) and may be a flourished initial with penwork in the same red colour. Many initials are given strange and fancy forms. Erroneous initials are found on ff. 109r, 246v, 248v. An initial “U” is missing on f. 246r, and in art. 4, no initials “T”, “X”, “Y” and “Z” were provided by the scribe., and Binding: Original binding, with a repaired spine, composed of (very damaged) undecorated brown leather over wooden boards, and sewn on three double cords(?), with plaited headbands. Five brass bosses are on each cover. Two clasps are attached to the rear board and rectangular engraved catches are on the front board. The inscription, in Northern Gothica Textualis Formata, is not deciphered.

In Latin., Script: copied in several hands: artt. 2 (the main text) and 4 are copied by several hands in bold Northern Gothica Textualis Libraria; art. 1 is written by one hand in Gothica Cursiva Antiquior Libraria (Anglicana); and art. 3 is in a rapid Gothica Hybrida., Decoration: Headings, running headlines, heightening of majuscules and underlining in red. Alternately red and blue paragraph marks. 1-line versals alternately red and blue in the Capitula. 2-line blue flourished initials half inserted, with red penwork extending into the left margin or the intercolumnar space. The Preface and the Books open with 6- or 7-line gold initials half inserted on a red and blue square background heightened with white penwork. Artt. 1 and 3 are not decorated; art. 4 has paragraph marks, heightening of majuscules and numbering of the Chapters in red., and Binding: Contemporary, undecorated red leather over rounded wooden boards, worm-eaten. In Latin., Script: Written in small gothic bookhand, below top line., Fine flourished initial, 5-line, divided red and blue, with penwork designs in both colors and long marginal tail of letter Q, f. 1r. Smaller flourished initials incorporating the heads of bird-like grotesques and cross-hatching designs. 1-line initials alternate red and blue for chapter lists. Paragraph marks and running headlines in red and blue. Rubrics throughout; instructions for rubricator along outer edges of leaves, some perpendicular to text., and Binding: Date? The covers are wanting but were probably of limp vellum. Original sewing on twisted tawed skin, slit ribbons, the sewing beaded in the center. A fragment of a parchment bifolium from a 14th-century breviary (mostly rubbed and illegible) is glued to the spine and cut out for the sewing supports; a portion of the fragment extends along the front and back of the text block.

In Latin., Layout: double columns of 35 lines., Script: protogothic., and Shailor and Watters have identified this fragment as coming from the same parent manuscript as Beinecke MS 712.254.
In Latin., Script: copied by one hand in Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria., Alternately red and blue paragraph marks. Alternately red and blue 2- or 3-line (sometimes 4- or 5-line) flourished initials, half inset, with penwork in the opposite colours extending in the left margin or in the intercolumnar space. On f. 1r at the beginning of the text a 9-line littera duplex with penwork, badly rubbed. Guide letters., The leaves are badly soiled and rubbed, making reading often difficult or impossible (especially f. 1, which is waterstained and missing the lower corner)., and Binding: undecorated cardboard cover, sewn on three leather thongs.

In Latin., Script: Written by a single scribe in small, cramped and highly abbreviated gothic cursive. Art. 6 added by two different hands., Crude penwork initials on f. 1r in red and blue, 3-line. The first incorporates a five-pointed star in red, with blue dots, and terminates with a full-length marginal border in inner margin. The second incorporates a fleur-de-lis. Other plain initials in red and/or blue throughout. Headings and strokes on paragraph marks and majuscules in red., and Binding: Date?, Italy? Backs of quires cut in for sewing. Plain limp vellum case with holes in each cover for two ribbons.
