Edward Steichen and his wife, Clara Smith Steichen, compiled one album, 1904-1929, initially to document the birth and early childhood of their daughter Mary Steichen. They subsequently augmented the album with photographs of their younger daughter Charlotte "Kate" Rodina Steichen. This album includes portraits of Mary Steichen created by Alvin Langdon Coburn in September 1907., Gift of Francesca Calderone-Steichen in the memory of Kate Steichen and Mary Steichen Calderone, 2011., Kate Steichen compiled one album as a Christmas gift in 1947 for Mary Steichen Calderone and her daughter Francesca Calderone-Steichen. The album documents the sisters' childhood, as well as images of their early adulthood, 1904-1939., Many photographs in the albums document the Steichen family and their activities at a farmhouse, which Edward Steichen called Villa L'Oiseau Bleu, in Voulangis, France, 1908-1914. Several images of its garden depict a "Măiastra" sculpture by Constantin Brancusi. Images document activities including horseback riding, children playing, and the fifth birthday party of Kate Steichen, as well as family pets, including dogs and a donkey., Some photographs record visits to sites in France, including Étables-sur-Mer and the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, as well as locations in the United States, including Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and New York City., and The albums include informal portraits of the immediate Steichen family, as well as Edward Steichen's parents Marie Kemp Steichen and Jean-Pierre Steichen, and his sister, Lilian "Paula" Steichen. There is also an informal portrait of Alvin Langdon Coburn with Mary Steichen. A few photographs document the Steichen sisters' lives after childhood, including portraits of Nell Martin and Linda Martin, the daughters of Mary Steichen with her first husband, W. Lon Martin.
