Manuscript on paper of Annales Sanctae Iustinae. The Annals deal with the regional history of Lombardy and the March of Treviso, but also with world history and cover the years 1207-1270. With Mantissa. Notes on the history and buildings of Padua from its legendary foundation to the death of Petrarch (1374), together with some facts of general history, written as a supplement to the preceding text.

Binding: Nineteenth century. Quarter binding, pasteboard covered with brown paper, and white parchment; flat spine with black leather title label with gold-tooled inscription: “MONACHI / PADUANI / CHRONICON / MS.”; below this label an oval label in the same material., Collection of Sir Thomas Phillipps. Purchased on the Edwin J. Beinecke Fund., In the original parts of the Annals, pale red headings; pale red stroking of the majuscules and plain alternately pale red and black 2-line initials, either Gothic with some decoration, or slovenly-made Humanistic ones. The parts copied by the second scribe are undecorated., Script: The Annals are copied by a single scribe writing Italian Hybrida Libraria under Humanistic influence, using only vertical d. Mantissa, as well as replacement leaves in the preceding text, are copied by a ca. 1600 hand writing Gothico-Humanistica Cursiva., and The original part of the manuscript is soiled and waterstained. It had lost two leaves that were later replaced.

In Latin., Script: Written in elegant italic script; headings and names of persons in humanistic bookhand or square capitals, in gold., On f. 1v: coat-of-arms of the Adelasio family of Bergamo (gules, per fess 3 pennants argent on staves or; in chief azure, an eagle displayed or) surrounded by a full floral border in vivid shades of gold, brown, red, orange, and blue, with two peacocks in lower panel and a framed oval miniature of the Virgin Mary supported by griffins in upper panel. On f. 2r similar treatment of folio, but with text of diploma in center of page and a miniature of St. Antony of Padua in upper panel; ff. 2v-3v surrounded by full floral borders of less exuberant design than ff. 1v-2r., and Binding: Seventeenth century. Brick-red sheepskin heavily gold-tooled with a central medallion surrounded by floral arabesques and fan corners in multiple roll borders of different designs, the outer one blind-tooled. A red wax seal (cracked), displaying the arms of Gregory, Cardinal Barbadicus (Barbarigo; 1626-97), and enclosed within the original gold-tooled circular holder (58 mm. diameter) that matches the binding, is attached to the spine with twisted silk cords.

In Latin., Script: Written by one person in round gothic bookhand., One 9-line initial, f. 1r, St. Saturninus holding an open book and martyr's palm, three-quarter length in front of trees and sky, dark blue with white filigree; purple foliage against a gold ground edged in black, with curling purple, green, and gold foliage extending into margin. Full border, framed in blue and gold, with three roundels in lower margin, right and left, hour glasses with scrolls with the motto "Pan. se. de. moi.", center, a coat of arms (barry of 6, sable and argent; overall a bend or). In upper margin, at right, a smaller roundel with a duck; at center, a Greek cross in gold, on purple; each framed in gold with blue or purple. Some foliage, as in initial, in center outer margin; border otherwise filled with blue and purple flowers with red and green centers, symmetrically disposed with smaller blue, purple, and green flowers, blue, purple, red and gold dots and fine spiralling vines in light brown. 2-line initials throughout, red or blue with blue or red penwork, with flourishes. 1-line red or blue paragraph marks. Rubrics throughout., and Binding: Eighteenth century. Brown calf over wooden boards, blind-tooled. Five very small, round bosses on each board and two fastenings. Rebacked. Pastedowns and flyleaves are conjugate leaves from a gradual (Italy, 16th century): front pastedown hidden under bookplates; front flyleaf with parts of the third Christmas mass and the rubric for Circumcision; back flyleaf with part of the first Christmas mass; back pastedown with parts of the mass of Epiphany.
