"Cook buying eggs. String of 1000 cash over his shoulder. About 1895." Two men are shown on a street negotiating a sale of eggs. The seller sits with his basket of goods before him. The buyer is seen carrying coin currency.
"Carpenter making foreign-style chair." A woodworker poses in his shop next to a chair he is building. The unfinished chair is shown with turned legs and spindles under the arms and a wood framed back.
"Bamboo rope bridge at Kuanhsien [Guan Xian], edge of Chengtu [Chengdu] plain." Thick cables provide support for the foot bridge between bamboo and stone pilings. A bank is shown where the river divides.
"Taken in April 1925. Compare with similar photo. (Taken in April) 1930." Four large two story buildings are shown on a campus or compound. (Possibly college buildings.)
"Pig going to market." Two young men pose in a roadway with a trussed pig suspended from a pole. The animal is shown being transported on their shoulders.
