Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital., Hospital Number 19,989., Joseph Briggs, Priv. Co. I., 8th Pa. Cav., Aged 41, admitted to Harewood General Hospital, March 23rd, 1865, with accidental gunshot wound of the left hand. The ball entered about the middle of the palmar surface, and emerged at the dorsal, fracturing the third metacarpal bone. The wound was received near Petersburg, Va., March 15th 1865, and was caused by the conoidal ball. The use of the middle finger is much impaired, in consequence of the necessary removal of loose spicula of bone, and gangrenous sloughing of tendon of flexor muscle. The patient had erysipelas in the left arm a short time, but it yielded promptly to treatment. The wound has entirely healed., Joseph Briggs., R. B. BONTECOU,, and Surgeon U.S. Vols., In charge.

Vols, age 18, admitted to Harewood U.S. General Hospital, April 19th 1865, from City Point, with shell wound of posterior, aspect of middle third of left thigh, received at Southside Rail Road Va., April 1st 1865. The treatment has been supporting with simple dressings to the wound. The progress has been favorable throughout. May 26, the patient is still in Hospital and doing well., R. B. General Hospital April 2nd 1865, with gunshot flesh wound of chest received at Fort Fisher Va., March 25th 1865, the ball entered about two inches from right nipple passing transversely through integuments, coming out one and one half inches from left nipple., R. [Loss of text due to trimming of the label.], Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital,, Hospital Number, 17,989., L. Westfall, Private, Co. M, 24th N.Y. Cav., aged 17, admitted September 9th, 1864, suffering from a large and irritated cer of internal side of lower third of left leg. Amputation of left leg middle third circular. Condition of injured part at time of operation, gangrenous. Tibea exposed for four and denuded of periosteum. Hemorrhage from posterior bial artery to amount of four ounces, patient extremely and emaciated. Result unfavorable. Sloughing of ges of the integument covering the bone. Died, Feb. 1865, from exhaustion. Operation performed by Surg. R. B. Bontecou, U.S.V., L. Westfall., R. B. BONTECOU,, and Surgeon U.S. Vols., In charge.

Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital., Hospital Number 20.360., Lewis J. Matson, Private, Co. K, 2nd N.Y. Cav., aged 21, was admitted to Harewood U.S.A. Gen'l Hospital, April 5th, 1865, suffering from gun shot wound of left leg, injuring knee joint, the extent of injury unknown. Amputation of left knee joint, antero-posterior flaps, on the field, April 1st, 1865, operator unknown. On admission, the condition of injured parts and constitutional state of patient were tolerably good. The parts became subsequently gangrenous, but by timely application of escharotics, and by a supporting treatment throughout, the patient is now doing well and in a fair way of recovery., Lewis J. Gunshot wound. Disarticulation at shoulder., Martin Burke, sergeant, Co. K, 15th N.Y.H.A., aged 29, admitted to Harewood U.S.A. Gen'l Hospital, September 13, 1865, suffering from amputation of left arm, upper third. Wounded before Petersburg, June 25, 1864; operation performed at Lincoln Hospital—particulars unknown. The patient states that at time of operation his constitutional state was good; but that parts became soon afterwards erysipelatous, extending through the whole chest, gangrenous and considerably sloughing, a destruction of soft parts, and the shaft was entirely removed by disarticulation at shoulder joint, by straight incision, March 29, 1865. The bone became necrosed nine months after the amputation; several abscesses had since collected in stump, and up to date, although the patient is good health, there are still several fistulous openings, with considerable discharge of pus. Treatment disinfectant, astringent lotions, and supporting throughout with liberal use of iron internally., and MARTIN BURKE.
