"Extravagantly dressed pedestrians promenade beside (?) the Serpentine. Almost all are arm-in-arm, an exception being an ugly and complacent woman whose face is covered by a long transparent lace veil. The women walk leaning back, as in BM Satires 14438; they point their toes as if at a dancing class, drawing up their skirts, but these are less long. A fashion for stripes for women's dresses and for trousers is apparent, and for patterned materials with scalloped flounces, furbelows, ribbons, and over-trimmed hats. Curled hair frames the face and rests on the shoulders. Waists are still wasp-like for both sexes. Men wear checked neck-cloths with high collars. Much play is made with eye-glasses and canes. "The freeholder, a ragged Irish peasant, stands full-face, between a bloated priest (left) and a fashionably dressed young man; both tug at his coat-collar. The obese priest, who wears robes, with a large cross from neck to knee, holds up a print of the Devil smoking a pipe, in the bowl of which sits a tortured man; he says: Vote for your Priest or see this picture of your Soul in the next world. The other points behind him to an eviction scene, saying, Vote for your Landlord or see the real consequence in this World. In the background is a cluster of mud huts placarded Wanted Protestant Tenants for these Cabins. Men chase away a ragged family in one direction, and a pig in the other. The lady is fantastically fat, with huge lips. She wears a short-waisted décollétee dress (though her waist is undiscernible), and holds in both hands a small parasol. On the canvas she is transformed into Juno pouring out a libation for Jove, an eagle clutching thunderbolts; she wears quasi-classical dress, with breast and arms bare; one sandalled foot rests on a cloud. Her bulk is scarcely modified; the likeness remains, though the contour of face and lips is improved. Two half length portraits also lean against the wall. The Irish painter declaims: "A famous hand Madam!!!
