"The Queen sits in profile to the right on a huge crown, her left foot on a footstool. She partly hides her face and an ambiguous grimace behind a fan inscribed C; in her right hand is a handkerchief. She is fat, very décolletée, and bejewelled, with monstrous ostrich feathers in her hair."--British Museum online catalogue

"A realistic view of the House receding in perspective to the Throne, above which is inset an oval bust portrait of Bartolomo Bergami, wearing a cluster of five decorations, see British Museum Satires no. 13810. Eighteen figures and objects are numbered referring to the key in the lower margin. Counsel are in a line across the foreground on each side of the centre figures, who are Gurney the short-hand writer and Majocchi facing the interpreter. The Queen is inconspicuously seated behind Brougham, next a smaller lady who must be the tall Lady Anne Hamilton. Eldon is at the Table in front of the Woolsack. On the Table is 13 Green Bag [see British Museum Satires no. 13735]."--British Museum online catalogue

"A spectacled auctioneer (the well-known Squibb) stands full-face in his rostrum with hammer raised, pointing downwards at a misshapen brass (yellow) figure of Queen Caroline in quasi-classical draperies, her arms akimbo, and displaying an ungainly leg. She stands on a wooden head of Alderman Wood, both being directed slightly to the left. Her sandalled feet rest on two curving supports of the head, which resemble the drooping peaks of a fool's cap. Near it lies a bundle of bulky papers, 'Defence of Innocence', labelled 'Lot 2 Waste Paper'. These two lots are on a table forming the base of the design below the rostrum. Behind the auctioneer less conspicuous lots are ranged on shelves: more bulky bundles inscribed 'Waste Paper Lot 3--Times'. A box of bonnets rouges with tricolour cockades inscribed 'To be Sold by Private Contract', with other chests of caps and of daggers, both inscribed 'Private'. A jar is 'Lot 5 Unsunned Snow' [see British Museum Satires No. 13975]."--British Museum online catalogue

"Queen Caroline, stout and flamboyant, stands on the balcony over the porch of Wood's house in South Audley Street, looking down complacently with folded arms at the cheering crowd which fills the street. Alderman Wood stands cringingly behind her. A boy sits on a lamp-bracket, looking up, saying, "I've got a good place Jack I can see the whole of her." A sailor climbs one pillar of the porch, a little chimney-sweep swarms up the other. A man on horseback says: "Come down you Smutty." Another man shouts: "Clap my Boy! Clap her!!" A boy with newspapers inscribed 'Times', bawls: "Never Vas sich Times as these" [a catch-phrase]; cf. British Museum Satires No. 13729. The street is densely packed; spectators wave from the opposite windows and balcony.
