Abstract:
Mr. Harley, with a very large belly and a shirt with lace trim, standing full-length in profile to right wearing on his head a cuckold's horns from which hangs a sign "A room to lett unfurnish'd". From his mouth a bubble reading, "I am one of the heads of the city." In his left hand a book open to pages that read, "The city poll dedicated to the Cheese mongers, trunk makers, etc. From his right pocket a letter, "At the court of C.C., it was carried NEM-CON that he was realy & not politically ill."

Abstract:
"'Cits' (i.e. citizens) ride (left to right) (types of vulgar horsemanship, cf. BMSats 7233, 7242) in a cloud of dust, following a crowded stage-coach inscribed 'To the Races'. A rough two-wheeled cart, crammed with a family party, is drawn by a cantering pony. A signpost points 'To the Race Ground'. A suburban setting is given by the country box and 'grounds' of a 'cit', with a notice-board: 'Spring Blunderbusss on a new Construction - Planted in Various Paths of my Domain & whosown Trample Down or pull up the Shrubs in this Garden shall be Prosecuted - Deputy Dump'. In front of the house the owner (?) and his wife look over the paling at the race-goers. The house is a square box, whose small scale is indicated by the size of a pot-plant on the flat roof; on this are also figures of Neptune, Harlequin, and Mercury. Adjacent (left) is a shed inscribed 'Mr Dumps Stables', with a pretentious cupola."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"A boxing encounter; the combatants, wearing waistcoats and gloves, stand facing each other with clenched fists. One (left) says:"I'll Box the Minister about if I get in & tip him Seven the Main". The other (right) says: "Now Mr Alderman I vil Show you vone Jews Blow". Each has a second; on the extreme left a backer sits on a cask inscribed 'Combe's Entire [scored through] Small hopes'; he holds a paper inscribed 'Aldn Combes for ever' and says: "He'll Make a better Boxer than a Parliament Man". On the extreme right the bottle-holder of Combe's opponent stands holding a bottle and a lemon. On the ground are books and papers: 'Brothers Prophecys' (see British Museum Satires No. 8627, &c.); 'Pains Rights of Man' (see British Museum Satires No. 7867, &c.); 'The Whole art of Boxing made Easy'; 'A Petition for Peace on giving up all the West India Islands Corsica [see British Museum Satires No. 8516] Fleet &c &c'; 'King Lord and Commons [erased and replaced by] A New System of Governt on the French Republican Plan'. On the wall (left) is a map (represented by meaningless scrawls) of 'Teritories Conquerd by the Republic of France & Indivesible Equality for Ever'. Abstract:
An ugly man in old-fashioned dress stands full-face, toes turned in, squinting, and looking downwards. An 'Address' is in his right hand, his left hand is in his breeches pocket; a document inscribed 'Observations' protrudes from his coat-pocket. His scanty audience of seven men, most of them sleeping, is behind him, on either side of a fireplace. A broken candle on the mantel drips wax into the mouth of one of the sleeping men (right), much to the amusement of his neighbour on his right. In the doorway on the far-left, one of the men uses a ear-trumpet; one holds a tea cup in his hand, and a third yawns. Over the chimney-piece is a large clock-face, the hands indicating 10:56; above it is a carved owl and the words 'About your business'.

"A procession of characters riding fantastic velocipedes (see British Museum Satires No. 13399), in profile to the right, each an isolated figure, arranged in two rows divided by a horizontal line. Each machine is an appropriate object mounted on two wheels. [1] 'The Aldermans Hobby'. Fat, drink-blotched, and with gouty legs, he rides a turtle. [2] 'The Sailors Hobby'. He vigorously rides an anchor, despite a wooden leg. He has a pugnacious expression, and a long pigtail. [3] 'The Jews Hobby'. He has a beard and rides a bag of 'Old Clothes'. [4] 'The Doctors Hobby'. A very thin apothecary, a medicine-bottle in his pocket, rides a 'Mortar', using the pestle as a steering-rod. [5] 'The Ireishmans Hobby'. A peasant, with one shoe and stocking, a straw rope twisted round the other leg, rides a bull, holding it by the horns. Cf. (e.g.) British Museum Satires No. 5605, by Gillray. [6] 'John Bulls Hobby'. A jovial and paunchy fellow rides a huge round of beef, inscribed 'Rump of Beef 4p. lb.', the dish being on rollers. He rides a goat whose legs are planted on two disks inscribed 'Cheese'; he has a goat-like profile and in his hat is a leek. [8] 'The Real Dandy Hobby'.
