A sleeping clergyman sits in an armchair, oblivious to a maid tickling his nose with the tail of a sucking pig, just delivered by a man standing in the open doorway. On a table is an inkstand and quill, a wine bottle, glass and candle with a book entitled "Tythe laws fully consider'd". At cat pulls from the table a paper labelled "Bans of marriage", while on the floor near a small dog a large book lies open to "Poem on good living". The clergyman's portrait and that of a woman hang on the wall behind him beside a map entitled "A Plan of the doctor's parish."

He wears patched old-fashioned clothes and torn stockings, a short wig which fails to conceal his own hair. His hat is under his right arm, a cane under the left."--British Museum online catalogue and "A portrait of 'Sir' John Hill, a quack or charlatan with a diploma of medicine from the University of St. Andrews, but a botanist of some repute. On the left, Charles Fox, with one hand in his pocket as if searching for money, holds out with the other what may be a jaw bone of a donkey. He appears to be addressing the voters. To the right, Sam House holds a flag attached to an erect fox's tail, inscribed, "the intripid Fox," and reaches into his left pocket for ribbons for the election favors. A group of men on the right comes celebrating Fox's canvassing; one of them drinks from a tankard inscribed, "Sam House," a reference to House's publick house in Wardour Street where he kept open house for Fox's supporters

Behind the pair another monk peeks around the door smirking. Above the door a painting shows semi-clothed figures. Miss Tittup was a character in Garrick's "Bon Ton".
