"One of a set (coloured) by Williams, all with the same imprint (British Museum Satires Nos. 12933-6). An adaptation of British Museum Satires No. 12925. The stout man dancing between two ladies is in military uniform with a large sabre. The room is altered by the addition of a side wall (left) to which the fireplace is transferred. In its place is the square piano under a large mirror. All the figures are altered; a lady in an arm-chair with a man leaning over her has been added. Elaborate gas or oil lighting replaces candles: a hanging chandelier with a circle of globes with chimneys, with similar lamps in brackets on a glass over the chimney-piece, which is surmounted by a standing lamp. There are three whole length portraits of dancers striking attitudes, two being 'Mde H[i]llisburgh' and 'Monr Vestris'."--British Museum online catalogue

"Heading to an engraved broadside. A servants' ball in the Pavilion, the musicians in the gallery being Ministers (left to right): Sidmouth and Liverpool play a duet at a square piano, gaping at each other; Eldon blows bagpipes; Castlereagh plays a harp. George IV waltzes with a fat, plainly dressed cook; he says: "How poor a thing may do a noble office!" A black footman dances with a fat lady; another lady dances amorously with a fat footman. One courtier (Bloomfield) dances with and embraces a fat cook, another has a more elegant partner. In the foreground stands Lady Conyngham (left), distressed and alarmed, her husband's antlered profile is just behind her; both wear coronets. She says: "Ah! with his scullion! Titles & rank are my defence But what can save her insolence!" He says: "If he has turn'd up my Wife I indeed may say--[citing Wolsey] "Farewell a long farewel to all my greatness!"" The wall and gallery are patterned with Chinese figures. The verses begin: 'Releas'd from all the toils of State . . .' The 4th, 5th, 6th, and 10th of 12 verses: '"I've supp'd within my kitchen range, "But I'll descend no more;* "The scene this night I'll wholly change, "Upstairs--invite uproar. "No virtuous women visit me-- "They dread to lose their name-- "I'll condescend--with those make free "Who never blush'd with shame. "A country dance; eighteen couples in a strip design in the manner of the 'Long Minuet' (No. 7229), dance with awkward vigour; one of the most active ladies has a wooden leg. The first couple (left) face each other, the lady squinting violently. On the right a man turns eagerly from his elderly and offended partner to a young lady, whose partner also holds the hand of another lady, while an elderly man stands alone on the extreme right, holding his wig, and mopping his bald head. The elder men wear powdered hair with small pigtails, the younger ones have frizzed hair without powder, short or with small tails. Only one or two wear wigs. The women wear simple high-waisted gowns with elbow sleeves and long gloves; one wears a hat and long sleeves. All wear flat-heeled shoes, and have frizzed hair, short, or piled on the head; a few wear feathered bandeaux; one lady only has powdered hair. Some have strange hair ornaments: a fat and very decolletee lady with a lap-dog under her arm wears round her erect bush of hair a circlet from which project barbed zigzags, like lightning flashes. A youngish lady has on her head a bird with a barbed fang; an older one in spectacles wears a small windmill behind two drooping aigrettes. The neglected lady wears a tiny wheat-sheaf, her pretty rival a ship in full sail. Below the title: 'What an elegant Set-What a bustling of Rumps! What a Sweet Toe to Toe-ing of Slipers and Pumps! "George IV as Midas in O'Hara's burletta dances a pas seul, holding up his hands. He wears old-fashioned dress, with long flowered waistcoat and a large wig which falls back, revealing his own curled toupet. He sings, the words adapted from Midas's song (II. i), as in British Museum Satires No. 14241: 'Oh! what pleasures will abound, Now my Wife is laid in ground, Strange Earth does cover her. I can't dance over her. Never mind, she's laid in Ground! Oh! how happy I shall be When a young Nisy pigs with me, How I'll mumble her; Touze and tumble her; Sixty is not sixty three!!' In the middle distance (right) Eldon, in wig and gown, and Sidmouth as Pan dance together, the latter holding up a frothing tankard. Sidmouth has a bare torso, goat-skin breeches, and cloven-hoof shoes, but not the wreath of vine-leaves and grapes of Pan in the play. Eldon has dropped the mace and the purse of the Great Seal; he sings: 'Oh! how happy I should be Was but this the case with me Oh what prancery! I'd cut Chancery! What comfort then at home for me. How gloriously you then shall dine, Fish, Flesh, Fowl, wash'd down with Wine No more thinking, But keep drinking, Peace to her Soul with 9 times 9.' In the background (left) Castlereagh (Londonderry) and Sidmouth sit at a table outside a rustic Irish inn, with the sign of the Crown and the word Whisky on the lintel. The hostess brings a bowl of punch, saying to Liverpool: You have got the Old Gentleman in good humour at last. He answers: Yes and now we must get him a young wife to keep him so. "A satire on costume, showing the unsuitability of modern dress to the minuet. A grotesque man bends towards his partner, taking her left hand in his right. The other guests stand or sit. He has a large moustache, a shock of hair, high shirt-collar, short-waisted coat with long tails, and loose striped trousers, tied in above the ankle. His partner has short skirt hanging from just below the breast which she holds up by the hem; towering feathers rise from a wreath of flowers on her head. A man in back view (right) wears tight pantaloons tied below the calf, others wear loose trousers.
