Part II: similar to Briquet Chapeau 3387., Script: Part I (ff. 1-3): Written in a small neat humanistic cursive by a single scribe, above top line. Part II (ff. 4-67): Written in a slanting humanistic bookhand with gothic features by a single scribe, above top line., Illuminated initial, f. 4r, 4-line, gold on blue, green, and red ground with yellow and white filigree. In lower border wreathed medallion with ribbons on either side, bearing the arms of Rainerius de Maschis of Rimini; the initials R and A, in gold, on either side of shield. Headings, paragraph marks, punctuation and marginalia, in red., and Binding: Fifteenth century, Italy. Sewn on three tawed skin, slit straps laced through tunnels in the edges of beech boards to channels on the outside and nailed. Natural color endbands, beaded on the spine, were sewn on tawed skin cores laid in grooves in the boards and nailed. There is tawed skin under the endband tie downs. Covered in green (?) tawed skin with a strip of red leather, 19th-20th centuries, added on the spine. Two truncated diamond catches with the IHS monogram within a sunburst (as used by St. Bernardinus of Siena) on the lower board. The upper board is cut in for clasp straps which are a later addition. Both clasps and catches have the word AVE. The title De re uxoria written in ink on both head and tail edges. The boards are badly worm eaten.

Original sewing on tawed slit straps laced through a tunnel in edge to outside channels in flush wooden boards, pegged with rectangular pegs and the channels filled in. Plain, wound endbands sewn through the spine lining onto tawed cores laced into the back cornering of the boards. The spine is rounded with a parchment lining (unidentified liturgical text: Germany, 12th century) that extends on the inside of the boards between sewing supports; parchment reinforcement strips from same manuscript and from others. Remains of parchment bifolios of a liturgical manuscript (Germany, 13th century) glued inside both covers. Length of page and written space: 121 (88) mm.; 6 mm. between rulings for text. Covered in cream colored, tawed skin. Five hat-shaped bosses and two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins on the upper board. The lower board is cut in to accomodate the straps. Parchment label glued to upper board: "de sacramentis Speculum humanae saluationis/ Questiones bone Sermones de sanctis;" added below in another hand: "de Sacra questione [?] bo. S. de. S." Lettering on tail: "de sacra question: bo. S. de." Straps wanting.

One fastening, the catch on the upper board and the strap wanting. Turk's head knot placemarks on the fore edge. Rectangular label removed from upper edge of front cover; two modern brown labels, stamped in gold, on spine: "Bernardi Varia" and "M. S." Original front pastedown: lower portion of a parchment bifolium (Germany, 15th century) of the Doctrinale of Alexander of Villa Dei with lines 1056-79 visible on verso and 1520-44 on recto. Ca. 5 mm. between lines of text. Binding restored.

In Latin, partly in Italian., Script: mainly copied by one hand writing a small Gothico-Humanistica with single-compartment a; a few additions and marginal notes by a contemporary hand. Art. 3 is copied in an unusual linear Humanistica Textualis close to Cursiva, marked by numerous loops., Headings in red. Underlining in black of the authorities and works quoted. A few plain initials in red. In the margins pointing hands (sometimes with human faces in the calligraphic loops) and arrows which have the same function., The manuscript includes short treatises, exempla, verses and prayers. With two fragments 1) of a Latin theological treatise on parchment, ca. 1300. 2) of a Latin philosophical treatise, probably a commentary on Aristotle's De caelo et mundo., and Binding: 16th century. Brown leather over pasteboard, sewn on three split leather thongs. The covers are blind-tooled with triple fillets and a frame of juxtaposed quadrangular tools with botanical motif. Remnants of one clasp attached to the front cover, with an engraved brass catch on the rear cover. In the center of the front cover a small paper roundel with a contemporary woodcut of one of the Magi; on the rear cover a rectangular contemporary woodcut on paper representing the Flagellation. The spine is reinforced by a piece of paper, on which the original title in ink has been replaced by “Sententiẹ / sacrẹ / et prophanẹ / Manuscript** / Sẹculi XV” (16th century). On the front detached pastedown r: “Opuscula varia” (16th century). Front pastedown is a fragment of a theological treatise, ca. 1300; rear pastedown, fragment of a philosophical treatise, probably a commentary on Aristotle's De caelo et mundo, both on parchment and orginally from the same manuscript.
