Initials in red and blue ink with penwork decoration. F1r decorated with a small historiated initial in gold containing drawing of a man's face., and Binding: early limp tawed leather wrapper.

Manuscript on parchment of Compendium theologicae veritatis by Hugo Ripelin. The manuscript also contains fragments of a tract by Praepositinus Cremonensis, theological notes, an ecclesiastical document, a table for finding the date of Easter, and a record of the Houses of the Teutonic Order in northeastern Europe
Description:
In Latin., Script: the main text is copied by two hands, both writing Gothica Textualis Libraria with similar features. The first wrote the Table and the entire text, except the last items in the Table and the final chapters of the text, from f. 68ra, line 17 onwards, which are copied by the second hand. German features are the undotted y and the shape of the con-abbreviation. Similar features are found in the table for finding the date of Easter, copied in a small Gothica Textualis Libraria, possibly by the same hand. The list of Houses of the Teutonic Order is approximately contemporary, in small Gothica Textualis Libraria under cursive influence (some ascenders are looped). Later additions in various hands. The main part of the text has red headings, paragraph marks and stroking of majuscules; 2-line alternately plain and flourished half inset initials, the latter with primitive penwork, 3-line flourished initials at the opening of the Books; at the opening of the additional chapters plain initials only., Hugo Ripelin's Compendium theologicae veritatis, with three final chapters not belonging to the work of Hugo Ripelin, nor found in the version of his work printed from 1470/1472 and attributed to Albertus Magnus. The manuscript also includes fragments of Praepositinus Cremonensis's Tractatus de officiis, as well as theological notes, an ecclesiastical document, a table for finding the date of Easter, and a record of the Houses of the Teutonic Order in northeastern Europe, with the dates of their foundation and of some other events, 1120 -1266., and Binding: quarter binding (circa 16th century): wooden boards with rounded edges and brown leather, the upper and lower parts of the spine strengthened by means of strips of blind-tooled white leather. The broken boards are repaired by means of leather strips and wooden strips. Remnants of one clasp.

In Italian., Script: Written in round gothic script., Very fine initials and borders. Three historiated initials, each with a personification with attributes. Each initial with a full border of fleshy acanthus, blue, orange, olive green, pink, grey and gold, with tooling; birds in lower margin of ff. 1r and 54r; on f. 1r a coat-of-arms, in lower margin: azure, a chevron or, between two roses in chief argent, a mount of 6 in base argent, probably of the Bini family, Florence. 3-line initials, red or blue, with mauve or red penwork with long intricate flourishes often extending the length of the page. Opening text of Inferno adjacent to the initial of f. 1r in display capitals with penwork panels in brown ink. Capitals on the beginning of each stanza stroked in yellow. Rubrics throughout., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Sewn on five double supports attached to wooden boards. The spine is square with well defined bands and red and green endbands. Covered in dark brown goatskin, blind-tooled in mudejar style in two sets of concentric frames; DO.IOAN.DE gold-tooled in the center of one, BORGA in the other. Trace of two fastenings. Gilt edges. Restored.

In Latin., Script: written in gothic script (littera textualis)., and Decoration: 3-line initials at the beginning of chapters are in red with red ornamentation; 1-line initials in the capitula list are in red; other 1-line initials are in black highlighted with red; rubrics are written in red in the same script as the text; paragraph marks in red are occasionally used in the margins to mark the beginning of a new lesson; punctuated with the punctus and punctus elevatus.
Manuscript on parchment. Written as a gift for Barbara Pfintzing, who entered a nunnery in 1441 at the age of 16. The text indicates that the manuscript was produced for use in a Dominican house of nuns; liturgical directions are written in German (the feminine forms in the antiphons and prayers often bear suprascript masculine endings, in red).

Articles 1 and 6 have 4-line staves, in red, and black square notes., Uninspired blue initial, 2-stave, on f. 1r, infilled and surrounded by red penwork flourishes with blue accents. Similar plain initials, 2-line, alternate in blue, red, and black with red throughout. Running titles and headings in red., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Resewn, using original sewing holes, on three double vegetable fiber cords laced into back-cornered and indented oak boards. Endbands embroidered on a strip of vellum and adhered, the vellum extending onto the outside of the boards. The spine is square and lined all along with manuscript fragments extending to the inside of the boards. Covered in vellum blind-tooled with concentric borders containing heads in oval frames among foliage in the outer, and busts of saints in the inner. Two brass fastenings, the catch on the upper board, straps attached to the lower with a metal plate. Straps wanting and a slight crack in one joint.

Piccard, v. 110, III.1667?., Script: Copied by Johannes Geratwol in Gothica Cursiva Libraria/Currens with some Bastarda characteristics., Headings, heightening of the majuscules and mostly 1-line plain initials in red or green. The initial on f. 1r has green penwork. The first lines of all titles in art. 1 are underlined in red., and Binding: Original pigskin, blind-tooled with lozenges traced in double fillets over bevelled oak boards. Spine with three raised bands, a label with handwritten title (worn) and a small label with the shelfmark "634"; the same number is written on the front cover. Traces of one strap attached to the rear cover and clutching over a pin (lacking) on the front cover.The binding stays and the lining inside the spine are said to come from a 12th-century Antiphonary from Tyrol, with text from the office for Epiphany. One strip of the spine lining would be from an unidentified 14th-century manuscript.

Similar initials, 6- to 3-line, without penwork extensions, on pp. 68, 130, 284. Small initials, 5- to 2-line, alternating red with purple penwork and blue with red, throughout. Headings in red; running titles in red and blue; paragraph marks alternate red and blue., and Binding: Fifteenth century. Sewn on five double, tawed thongs laced into flush oak boards through tunnels in the edge and pegged with rectangular pegs. The back board is cracked and mended. The spine is square and lined with tawed skin. Plain, wound endbands sewn on twisted, tawed skin cores laced into the boards. Added embroidery is sewn through the cover and shows on the spine and the edge, with whip-stitching around the entire endband. Covered in kermes pink tawed skin with corner tongues. Two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins on the lower board. Five foliate bosses on each board. A pin, straps and two bosses wanting. Original front pastedown: incomplete alphabetical index, 14th century, of subjects from amor through uita (no entries for x). Original back pastedown, also contemporary with main text: fragment of a theological text on the biblical prophets, on recto; unfinished diagram of the books of the Bible, divided into categories in mandata diuisio, in exempla diuisio, in ammonitiones diuisio, in reuelationes diuisio (with material from Old Testament only), on verso.

In Latin., Script: Copied by Jodocus Sparlützel in a single hand in Gothica Hybrida Libraria. The scribe is elsewhere given the name Jodocus Sparlützel (Swicker) de Wil., Decoration: Red stroking of the majuscules and red underlining. Red plain initials, normally 1-2 lines; the initial of the first lemma beginning with a given letter of the alphabet is larger (up to 7 lines) and may be a flourished initial with penwork in the same red colour. Many initials are given strange and fancy forms. Erroneous initials are found on ff. 109r, 246v, 248v. An initial “U” is missing on f. 246r, and in art. 4, no initials “T”, “X”, “Y” and “Z” were provided by the scribe., and Binding: Original binding, with a repaired spine, composed of (very damaged) undecorated brown leather over wooden boards, and sewn on three double cords(?), with plaited headbands. Five brass bosses are on each cover. Two clasps are attached to the rear board and rectangular engraved catches are on the front board. The inscription, in Northern Gothica Textualis Formata, is not deciphered.
