Abstract:
Manuscript, on parchment, in two scribal hands, containing the text of this commentary on the Song of Solomon by Cassiodorus (fols. 1-26). This is followed by unidentified commentaries on the same text (fols. 26-64). The volume concludes with a copy of the Biblia Beatae Virginis (fols. 64-96).

In Latin., Script: written in gothic script (littera textualis)., and Decoration: four 3-line initials from the beginning of Psalms; the first two initials are blue uncials on a square pink ground bordered in greeen; the second two are pink uncials on a square blue ground bordered in green; all four initials are filled with gold in which there are pink, green, or blue vines with white, yellow, or pink flowers; these initials are very similar in design, decoration, and size to the initials in MSS 483.8-9; punctuated with the punctus and punctus elevatus; hyphenation is in the same ink as the text.

In French., Script: Written in gothic bookhand, below top line., Plain initials, 3- to 2-line, alternate red and blue for each chapter. Headings in red. Guide letters for decorator., Many leaves stained, damaged, but with little loss of text, except on bottom of f. 1 and top of f. 36, which are torn with loss of text., and Binding: Thirteenth century, England. Original wound, caught up sewing with heavy thread, on four tawed skin, slit straps laced through tunnels in the edge to channels on the outside of oak boards and wedged. The natural color endbands are sewn on leather cores which are laid in grooves on the outside of the boards and pegged. The spine is back bevelled. Covered in tawed skin, originally white, but now dark brown on the outside. The turn-ins of the upper board are serrated. Two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins (traces only) on the lower board, the upper one cut in for the fabric-reinforced leather straps. Some sewing supports broken, one board detached, and some covering leather and straps wanting.

The boards are broken, the sewing breaking and most of the cover wanting; the boards were repaired in the 18th or 19th century when presumably the front flyleaf and pastedown from a document, in Italian, listing sale agreements made during 1650-52, were added.

Part II: Plain initials, 4- to 2-line, headings, paragraph marks, underlining for Biblical passages, initial strokes and punctuation, in red., Rust stains on ff. 109-113 indicate that Part I was once bound separately., and Binding: 19th-20th centuries, France (?).
