Abstract:
In an alcove on the right in an untidy garret, a man in a dressing-gown scratches his head as he writes on a sheet with the title "Riches a Poem". In the center of the image his wife is seated as she mends a pair of breeches; at her feet a cat and her kittens are curled up on the man's coat. Under the sleeve of the coat on the floor is an issue of "Grubstreet Journall." She looks to the door on the left where she is confronted by a milkmaid who holds a lengthy tally; the daisies in her bonnet suggest Michaelmas day when bills are due; she also is shown with a yoke across her back. Just inside the doorway a dog snatches the single pork chop from a plate on a chair; the cupboard above the door stands open to show empty shelves. Behind the poet, a baby lies in a bed crying. Above the poet's head is a print 'A View of the Gold Mines of Peru." Above the mantel is a "dare for larks" -- a circular mirror surrounded by eight smaller circular mirrors

Senesino, tall and ungainly, stands a quayside, recoiling from the effusive farewells of two ladies, one holding a handkerchief to her eyes; a number of gentlemen raise their hats and one bows low; two other men stand behind, one with a walking stick and a cloak over his arm. To the right, two servants, one a black man, carry a board, labelled "Ready Mony", piled high with bulging purses; Two jeering men to the right of the original print do not appear. The man with a pronounced nose and wearing a large three-cornered hat is walking in a landscape, to right, holding a dripping pen and reading from a paper, "To ye Advertiser. Sr. Please to Insert this Seven time at 2s. each / Whereas a Lady Signs LM, if she approves of this Picutre & to Live in Woods & Groves Meeting"; he is saying "Here's a Back Broad & Pithy. Heres Legs Hard & Brawny Girl. Hem! As Sound as a Roach.". In the background, to right, a winged ass flies off carrying a naked woman holding a liberty staff and saying, "He's a Man every Inch. I assure ye Stout vigrous active & long"; a barrel, labelled "Jointure", leaks from its bung hole into a lake. A jester's bauble, a scroll labelled "Settlement" and a large book rest in the foreground to right.
