Part II (ff. 105-132): Written in small upright gothic script; words being defined written in larger more formal style of script. Part III (ff. 133-175): Written in a style of script similar to that in Part II. Part IV (ff. 176-211: Incunabulum. Part V (ff. 212-247): Written in a small round gothic text hand with humanistic features. Part VI (ff. 248-253): Written in cramped and hastily written gothic script. Part VII (ff. 254-265): Written in small gothic text hand., Part I: Two illuminated initials, 9- to 5-line, formed of stylized foliage, pink and green with white highlights on gold gound, filled with blue ground with white filigree. Terminals extending into the margins to form partial floral borders, stylized foliage, blue, green and pink, with gold balls with hair-line extensions. Pen-and-ink initials, alternating in blue and red with red and light green penwork. Plain initials in red or blue. Part II: Red and blue divided initial, 4-line, f. 105r, smaller initials in red or blue. Underlining and paragraph marks in red. Letters and words stroked with yellow. Part III: Crude red initial with simple penwork designs, 8- to 2-line. Paragraph marks and underlining in red. In Middle English., Script: Written by a single scribe in a somewhat rough textura., The genealogical diagrams, which are fitted into the empty spaces between the columns of text, begin with a roundel formed of concentric bands of blue, gold and red with a miniature of Adam with Eve, who is being handed an apple by the serpent. From the roundel of Adam and Eve to the Ascension of Christ the successive Biblical names, framed in orange or green squares, are linked by a continuous band in blue, red and gold. The names of the ancestors of the Kings of England, starting with Brutus, appear in red or blue circles, surmounted by gold crowns. Other names are in plain red circles. Linking lines in the genealogies are in red or green. At the appropriate places in the text are inserted schematized diagrams in red and green ink of Noah's Ark, a plan of the Israelite camp in the desert and a plan of the city of Jerusalem., One large illuminated initial for the prologue, 8-line, mauve and blue with white filigree against gold ground thinly edged in black. The initial is filled with a large flower, red, yellow and green, and curling acanthus, orange and green extending into the margin and continued as black inkspray with large leaves, heart-shaped or acanthus, blue, pink, orange, white and green with white filigree, a large orange and gold flower, smaller leaves in gold with blue and pink, gold dots and small green leaves, extending into the upper and left margin to form a partial border. Smaller illuminated initial for the beginning of the main chronicle, 5-line, gold on blue and mauve ground with white filigree. Numerous small initials, 2-line, alternate in gold with blue penwork and blue with red. Paragraph marks alternate in red and blue., and Binding: Unbound.

In Latin., Script: Written by one scribe in large round gothic bookhand. Index added later by Frater Elia Pinelli, in humanistic script., Three historiated initials; that on f. 3r (Sts. Peter and Andrew), the Calling of Sts. Peter and Andrew, is of high quality; purple with white floral highlights; ornate purple, blue and green fruit and floral border, inner margin, with candelabra, hairspray and gold dots. The two other historiated initials are of inferior quality: f. 78v (Holy Cross) Cross with Arma Christi and f. 220r (Mass of the Dead) two roundels: skull and cross-bones against a landscape and skeleton with scythe against a black ground. Very fine penwork 3- and 2-line initials: done in red or blue (one on f. 57r in gold), decorated with white bands and jewels, with blue and red penwork, large illusionistic jewel studs and simple fruit and floral borders, painted in purple, blue, green, and yellow or in pen, red, blue with some black and yellow; initial on f. 189r with two seraphim. Some 2-line initials incorporate ivy or fruit swags. 1-line initials, red or blue, divided, with blue or red penwork, jewel studs, circles and lozenges, in green, yellow and tan. Square musical notation on 4-line red staves. Rubrics throughout., Binding: 17th-18th centuries. Original sewing on 6 double cords, each covered with brown leather and probably nailed to inside of boards. Red and gold wound endbands. Heavy boards are covered with thick leather (cowskin?) and the spine is covered separately with leather nailed to the edge of each board. There are four brass corner pieces and a large central boss on each board, bosses protruding from the three outer edges, and a strap and pin fastening, the pin on the lower board., and An additional leaf with a historiated initial depicting St. Felicitas was removed from this manuscript at some point prior to its acquisition by the Beinecke Library. This leaf is currently cataloged as Beinecke MS 712.129.
