In Latin., Watermarks: Piccard, Ochsenkopf XII.749, XIII.771, and similar to XI.226., Script: Written in a well formed hybrida script by a single scribe., One illuminated intial, f. 1r, 18-line, dark green with stylized foliage in light green with yellow shading against red with gold filigree and gold ground edged dark and light grey. Foliage serifs, blue, green, pink, red, and grey with gold balls and gold accents extending into the upper, inner, and outer margins to form a partial border of attenuated and stylized curling leaves. One flourished initial, 5-line, blue with red penwork, f. 5v. Plain initials alternate red and blue. Headings in red for table and a few chapters; most spaces left unfilled by rubricator., and Binding: Fifteenth century, Southern Germany or Austria. Original wound sewing on three tawed skin, slit straps laced through tunnels in the edges to channels on the outside of flush beech boards and pegged twice. The spine is lined with vellum between supports. Covered in brown calf, blind-tooled with a rope-work flower in a central panel which is divided in three, the upper and lower sections divided into triangles; the whole panel within a rope interlace border. Spine: bands outlined with triple fillets. Two fastenings, now wanting, the lower board cut in to accomodate them.

The text, containing the double dedication, to Robert of Gloucester and Waleran Count of Mellent, and wanting the epilogue addressed to Henry of Huntingdon and William of Malmesbury, is believed to be the earliest version of Geoffrey of Monmouth's work. 2) Unidentified French poem of which the end is missing (1276 verses preserved), on the vanity and corruption of the world. 3) Le Roman des Romans

In French and Latin., Script: Art. 1: Copied by one hand, writing a large Praegothica. Art. 2: Copied by a single hand in early Northern Gothica Textualis Libraria. Art. 3: Copied by a single hand in early Northern Gothica Textualis Libraria., Art. 1: The decoration consists of Romanesque flourished (in one or two colours) or plain initials (2 lines, on f. 1r 4 lines), alternately in red and green. Guide-letters in the margins. On f. 55r, at the beginning of the history of Merlin, a male bust is drawn in the margin., and Binding: Original white leather over rounded oak boards; spine with four raised bands. Marks of one strap fixed to the front cover and clutching over a pin in the rear cover. The front pastedown (detached) consists of fragments of a court roll (from a trial of 1334), identified by N.R. Ker (note kept in the documentary folder in the Beinecke Library) and copied in Gothica Cursiva Antiquior (Anglicana).

Corrections by a later hand (15th century) in brown ink., One large, 2-column miniature, 18-lines, f. 3r, of three scribes, set in a wide (25 mm.) frame, brown, decorated with a continuous garland of flowers in gold, green and white, outlined on both inner and outer edges with bands of pink, gold and blue, highlighted in white. Text surrounded by a 3/4 band of pink and gold with white highlights, edged in black. Full border: curling sprouts of blue, gold and some red and light blue acanthus on green stems, largely confined to the corners and centers of the border, with blossoms containing animals, devils, knights; the intervening spaces filled with trailing vines of green and gold leaves with varied flowers in red, blue, light blue, strawberries, grapes and beans as well as denser vines in black ink with leaves in gold and green, with flowers, as above; the entire border densely filled with pen flecks, black, with gold dots., Historiated initials (one column, 8-line), for the Seven Days of Creation (ff. 4v, 5r, 5v, 6v, 7v, 8v and 10r), roundels, with circular frames, brown with garlands as above, in some cases with the top and bottom of the roundel lopped off, set against a field of acanthus and/or flowers, as above, and set between two thin gold bands, edged in black. Part II (ff. 174-197): Written in gothic bookhand with some marginalia by contemporary and later hands., Part I: Two illuminated initials in parallel positions on f. 1r, beginning mid-page and extending almost to the bottom of the leaf. The first initial composed of a gold trellis edged in black with heads of a grotesque devouring the trellis at top and bottom, and foliage designs in green and white scrolling around the body of the initial against pink interior with white highlight and gold balls. The whole on a rectangular ground tapering to a point at bottom, with white designs. The genealogical diagrams are periodically interspersed with 58 roundels framed in red with lively pen drawings in brown ink with washes in blue, pink and green, depicting cities and churches whose foundations are ascribed to particular rulers or occurred during their reigns. Each of the genealogical diagrams begins at the top of the text with a roundel, depicting respectively (I) Mount Calvary, (II) Rome, (III) Venice (whose foundation is ascribed to Trojan nobles) and (IV) London. Included are drawings of Constantinople, Hagia Sophia, Santiago de Compostela; the majority of the drawings appear in the chronology of the French monarchs, with depictions of Paris, St. Genevieve, St. Denis, St. Martin-de-Champs, and others.
