In Latin., Script: written in gothic script (littera textualis)., and Decoration: one 4-line initial "I", the body of which is divided into three columns of blue, blue-grey, and light brown, each column decorated with a different pattern of white filigree; the first letter of the rubric is a blue uncial with red penwork, and the rest of the rubric is written in red; punctuated with the punctus; musical notation is in black on 4-line staves in red.

In Latin., Script: Copied by one hand in large Southern Gothica Textualis Formata (Rotunda). The opening majuscule of each verse set off in a separate column., 1-line red versals and 2-line red plain initials. Two large initials: f. 1r, at the beginning of the text of art. 1, historiated 10- line initial in pink on a blue background, containing a half-length profile of a poet or teacher in outline with a yellow dress; f. 10r, at the beginning of art. 2, decorated 9-line initial in pinkon a blue background, filled with red, yellow and green leaves., Due to intensive use the pages are badly rubbed and the legibility is impaired; whole passages have been rewritten by a later hand. The corners of the leaves are worn off. Holes and sewings., and Binding: Original half brown leather binding over heavy bevelled wooden boards; sewn on two split leather thongs; the spine damaged. Remnants of one strap attached to the front cover, with iron pin on the rear cover.

In Latin., Script: copied by two hands writing a small Gothica Textualis Libraria, both having a tendency towards lengthening and making loops to the ascenders at the top line; A copied ff. 1r-7v and 17r-19v and is marked by conspicuous vertical decorative strokes at the top of r and long strokes on i; B copied ff. 8r-16v. Running headlines in red in artt. 3-5 in Gothica Textualis Libraria., Headings in red. 2-line (on f. 18v 3-line) initials were provided but were not executed; guide letters in the inner and outer margins. In art. 1, square spaces or roundels traced in ink have been provided in the text for illustrations, but the latter have only exceptionally been executed. No illustrations were provided in chapters 28-30 and 36-37. On f. 1v the text of chapters 31-35 is arranged in such a way, that a roundel containing a fully coloured female saint is placed in the center, and in the right-hand column a large space has been provided for a picture of the Cedar, the text being written around its stem. On f. 2r there is a drawing in crayon of a Pelican (very light, ch. 38), on f. 2v an ink drawing of a Raven (ch. 40), on f. 6r a crayon sketch of a Stork (ch. 47)., Parchment soiled and in bad condition. Holes and irregular and damaged lower edges, the latter often repaired by means of strips of parchment; the final pages badly damaged, with loss of text., The manuscript contains: 1) Hugo de Folieto (Hugh of Fouilloy, d. c. 1172), Aviarium. 2) Bestiarium (Bestiary). 3) Caesarius Arelatensis (c. 470-542), Sermo 46 (De ebrietate vitanda). 4) Ps.-Augustinus Hipponensis, Sermo de vanitate. 5) Augustinus Hipponensis (St. Augustine, 354-430), Informatio regularis (Regula ad servos Dei)., and Binding: 19th century. Reddish leather over cardboard; the covers blind-tooled with a double decorative frame, the inner one chequered, with circular dots on the intersections; small quadrangular decorative bosses in gilt (?) brass in the four corners and in the center of each cover. Spine with four raised bands. Two brass clasps attached to the rear cover, with catches on the front cover.

In Latin. and Decoration: initial "N" in light pink decorated with white foliate patterns around the outer edge of the letter and white dots around the inner edge; the ends of the letter terminate in green and yellow; the letter is on a gold geometric ground that is outlined in black and filled with green, pink, and red leaves attached to a blue vine and with balls that are half white and half blue or green.

Part I was written in (probably Northern) Italy at the end of the 14th or beginning of the 15th century. Part II may have been written in Hainaut and added during the 15th century

In Latin., Script: Part I written in round gothic bookhand by a single scribe who made neat corrections, often on lines ruled in the margins. Part II written in well formed gothic textura., Part I: Border decorations: long stems, inner and top margins or between text columns, in blue, pink, and grey segments divided by small balls, sprouting curling foliage (blue, light blue, and orange), concentrated at corners, with large spiky leaves at terminals and large spiral angular returns filled with mauve or gold in the lower margins; large gold dots tucked under leaves and trailing from the tips of leaves on thin brown pen lines. Initials, 4- to 3-line, attached to stems, pink and grey with white highlights; foliage serifs, as above; letters filled with blue and gold, with some vine work (green and grey), against gold grounds with thick black edging. 2-line initials, set into text columns, blue or red, with very elaborate, minute penwork, blue, red, and occasionally green, built up of small spirals, roundels, and long "caterpillar"-like segments, often extending the full length of text columns; with curling flourishes in margin. 1-line initials in Table of Contents red or blue, with thin vertical strokes in the opposite color; chapter numbers in red. Headings and paragraph marks in blue or red; rubrics throughout., Part II: Plain initials, 5- to 3-line, alternating red and blue, with large serifs; one on f. 300v in red and blue.
