Manuscript on paper of Antonio de Ferrariis (called himself Galateo after his birthplace, d. 1517), De situ Iapygiae. His work is a geographical, historical, epigraphical and literary description of Iapygia, i.e. the Southeastern part of Italy (now Apulia).

In Latin., Script: Three scribes, all writing Humanistica Cursiva: hand A copied ff. 1r-20v, 24v-26v, 31r-36r line 10, 36v last three lines (Libraria); hand B copied ff. 21r-24r, 27r-30v (Currens); hand C copied f. 36r line 10-36v, except the last three lines (Currens under Gothic influence)., No decoration., Water stains. Some pages badly damaged by the acid ink., and Binding: The damaged covers of the original binding are mounted on the new binding in brown leather. Blind-tooled, featuring two square frames bordered by fillets and rolls.

(1519-1527?)., Script: Copied by one hand in Gothica Hybrida Formata verging to the Semitextualis, with a "typographic" outlook (but totally different from the printing type used in the presumed exemplar)., Paragraph marks, flourished initials (5 ll. f. 1r, 3 ll. f. 5r) and Columbus coat of arms all in the same brown ink as the text. The arms closely resemble those found in the Genoa codex of his Book of Privileges., and Binding: Unbound. Placed in a boardpaper portfolio and leather-backed boardpaper slip-case.

In Italian., Drawings mounted, framed by narrow gold strips., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Red, straight-grained goatskin, gold-tooled, with light blue, watered silk doublures and flyleaves. Possibly bound by one of the Bozerians (Paris, 1793-1817), but the foot of the spine where their signature usually appears was destroyed in rebacking. Gilt edges.

An allegorical treatise in three parts on the past and present state of Rome and Italy, topography, cosmography, geography, etc. Includes a dream vision of heaven and a dialogue between the author and Cato the Censor. Ends with a panegyric in praise of Giovanni Ruffo de' Teodoli, Archbishop of Cosenza (1511-1527), the author's patron. The manuscript is apparently unique and probably an autograph fair copy

In Latin., Script: Copied by one hand in a slightly uneven upright Humanistica Cursiva Formata. Headings and explicit-incipit formulas in capitals., On f. 2v, painted coat of arms of Giovanni Ruffo de' Teodoli, Archbishop of Cosenza, surmounted by a cross and placed in a floral wreath, above two distychs. At the head of each part a 6-line silver initial (Capitalis), outlined with black ink, on a square red or blue background with silver foliate decoration. A small purple initial in the space for a 4-line initial on f. 4r., At many places the paper is damaged and the reading impaired by the acidity of the ink., and Binding: Original presentation binding: light brown leather over pasteboard. Spine with three raised bands, gauffered and gilt edges. Both covers are decorated with two frames of blind-tooled quadruple fillets surrounding rich gold-tooled frames with in the centre on the front cover the coat of arms of the dedicatee (with six-spoked wheel), on the rear cover a large rosette. Remainders of two pairs of ties.
