"A scene in Carlton House. The Prince of Wales, seated in a chair, holds a stout, good-looking lady (Mrs. Sawbridge) across his knees and chastises her with upraised hand; she holds out her arms imploringly. Alderman Sawbridge (right) faces her in profile to the left, playing a fiddle and dancing; from his pocket hangs a piece of music inscribed 'The Reform', a new Motion. On the extreme left Lady Archer stands in profile to the right, holding a driving-whip, and pointing angrily at the injured lady. A little girl (Sawbridge) stands full-face, clasping her hands in horror at the treatment of her mother. Behind are a number of onlookers: a very fat lady in profile to the left is Miss Vanneck. Mrs. Fitzherbert watches, not displeased; Fox, his arm round her shoulder, gazes amorously at her. George Hanger stands in profile to the left. The other figures are less characterized but a profile head (right) resembles Lord Derby. On the wall (right) is part of a three quarter length portrait, the head cut off by the upper edge of the design, inscribed 'Sir G° Van-Ne[ck]'. Beside it is a stag's head on which hangs a man's hat, just above Sawbridge. After the title is etched 'A Hint for a new Reform'. 'Black Jack' is Sawbridge, who was swarthy, and a consistent advocate of Parliamentary Reform. In the background (right) are persons dancing."--British Museum online catalogue

"The interior of a panelled room: ten men holding hands dance in a circle to the tune of a bag-pipe played by Bute (l.) wearing a kilt and appearing from behind a curtain. The king watches with pleased amusement from behind a door (r.). The dancers are trampling on papers and state documents. Lord North, trampling on papers inscribed "National Debt" and "Grievances", is between Lord Bathurst in his Chancellor's robes but wearing a hat, and Lord Barrington in a military coat under whose feet are "Dispatches from War Office"; under Bathurst's foot is a paper, "Appeals, Decrees". Next him (r.) is a youthful-looking minister stepping on a paper inscribed "French Grammar" to show that he is Suffolk, Secretary of State, pilloried for his ignorance of French, see BMSat 4875, 4876. His neighbour is only partly visible. Next comes a military officer trampling on a paper inscribed "Middlesex Election" to show that he is Colonel Luttrell. On Luttrell's r., and the central figure of the design, is Lord Mansfield wearing tartan stockings to show that he is a Scot and dancing upon "Magna Charta". On his right. is an unidentified figure, then a minister treading on papers inscribed "Whitfield Hymns" to show (not very consistently) that he is Lord Dartmouth, whose strong attachment to the Methodists earned the nickname of the Psalm-singer. He had succeeded Hillsborough as Secretary of State for the Colonies on 14 Aug. 1772. Between him and Barrington stands Sandwich, wearing a sailor's trousers and standing on "The Petition of the Navy Captains". Bute stands on a paper "To Miss Vansittar[t]". Other papers on the ground are "The Remonstr[ance of the City]" and "Petition of the East India Comp"."--British Museum online catalogue

"Dissenters are engaged in burning churches and attacking the clergy. In the foreground a stout bishop on his knees is being kicked and assailed by men with bludgeons; beside him is a book: 'Refutation of Dr Price'. He exclaims, raising his hands, "Murder, fire, thieves". One of his assailants says, "Make room for the Apostle of Liberty"; the other, "God assisting us nothing is to be feared". Under this group is inscribed: 'And when they had smote the Shepherd, the Sheep were scattered'. Behind (right) a Gothic building, from which extends a sign of the Mitre and Crown, is being demolished. Price sits astride on the beam supporting the sign; in one hand is an open book, 'Love of our Country', in the other is a firebrand inscribed 'The Flame of Liberty'. Beneath, two men in steeple-crowned hats are feeding a fire with faggots, whose flame and smoke, inscribed '39 Articles', ascends in a thick cloud. Next the burning building, and on the extreme right, is a porch (over a doorway) in which stands Fox, blowing a horn and pointing down to a placard over the doorway: 'Places under Government to be disposed of. NB, Several Faro and E.O. Tables in good Condition'. An adjacent placard is: 'day next charity sermon by Revd chas Fox'. A group of eager fanatics with lank hair rushes towards the doorway, holding up to Fox money-bags inscribed '30.000', '10.000' and '20.000.' In the foreground (right) are two fanatics struggling for the bag of the Great Seal; one raises a mace inscribed 'Brotherly Love' to strike his opponent; under his foot is a paper: 'Repeal of the Test Act'. In the background (left) is a group of figures engaged in demolishing a church with pickaxes; a rope pulls over the cross on the steeple. Two of this group look towards Price: a parson inscribed 'P------ly' (Priestley) waves his hat, saying, "Make haste to pull down that old Whore and we'll build a new one in its place"; a lean man, fashionably dressed (evidently Stanhope), extends his arms, saying, "Address to Assemblee national"."--British Museum online catalogue
