Abstract:
Outside an English country inn, over whose door a sign reads "Duke of Cumberland Roast and boil'd every day", a group of soldiers and sailors laugh at a large caricature of Louis XV on the tavern wall. They sit with two attractive young women around a table on which sits a large pie, a tankard, and a broadsheet with the verses of "Rule Britannia." In the lower left a soldier leans against a drum as he plays his flute; the music sheet in front of him is "God save Great George our King". To the right, a short well-fed man smiles as he stands on tip-toe to reach the height required by the recruiting sergeant. In the distance, soldiers are drilling in an orderly fashion; beyond them, on a hill is a large country house

This jubilee on Augt. 1, 1814, was to celebrate the return of peace and the centenary of the reign of the illustrious House of Brunswick and to commemorate the glorious Battle of the Nile., With lettered key (from A to D) etched on either side of text below image: A. The Naumachy, representing the Battle of the Nile. B. The Serpentine River. C. The fair, which lasted upwards of a week. D. The fireworks in Kensignton Gardens let off at eleven at night., Sheet trimmed within plate mark., and Print glazed; removed from contemporary frame (53 x 62 cm) which is stored separately.

"One of a set (coloured) by Williams, all with the same imprint (Nos. 12933-6). An adaptation of No. 12926. Two sets of four dance as before but the ladies and their partners stand alternately, instead of two ladies being together in the middle of each row. A lady playing a harp sits on the settee, a man stands beside her. A man facing the fireplace ties his cravat; another reaches up with a cane, perhaps to adjust the gas which issues from two serpents decorating the top of the mirror, on which stand also two lamps with globes and chimneys. In place of the chinoiserie chandeliers against the wall are two pictures, one of a couple turning together (as in No. 12925) against an architectural background, one of three naked savages posturing outside their tents.
