Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of about 85 copies of primarily political documents pertaining to events between 1592 and 1632. The volume includes speeches and letters relating to the murder of Thomas Overbury and the trial of Walter Raleigh; a description of voyage to France to aid the Huguenot cause in 1626-7 and seige of La Rochelle; a factual account, with figures, of fighting in Thirty Years' War; "The examinations of the counterfett ghost that came into St James on fryday night the 13 of 9br 1612, beeing that day sennight after Prince Harries death," whose testimony was taken by Sir Thomas Chaloner and Sir John Holles; and the confession of Anne Lady Ross to the Star Chamber declaring that she had perjured herself by "accusing the said Right Honorable Countess of Exeter with an intent & purpose to poison" her. The volume also contains a copy of the will of Holles' father, Thomas Holles of Haughton, dated 17 March 1592 and "written in his owne hand"; and "A prayer wch my deere sister Wentworth did use, coppied from her owne hand, wch I had of my mother 24th Jan. 1631."

Each section opens with a 2-line gold initial on a square coloured background heightened with white, yellow or gold penwork. The initial is accompanied by three gold balls in black penwork flourishes in the margin. Holograph of a diary recording primarily family comings and goings and routine social activities of the East family, including visits from friends and family, tea drinking, dining, races, plays, and balls; as well as traveling by the family and neighbors, descriptions of the weather, and frequent updates on Sir William East's numerous illnesses, including two substantial bouts of the gout, several serious toothaches, a cold, and pain in his fingers, ankle, leg, and heel. Elsewhere, she mentions servants' wages, their livery, and the arrival and firing of a housekeeper who becomes inebriated on his first night of employment. On October 16, 1784, she goes to London to see Jean-Pierre Blanchard ascend in a hot air balloon. The writer also makes frequent mention of members of the Clayton family throughout the volume, most often visits by the "Miss Claytons." The volume also contains a list titled Rules & maxims for promoting matrimonial happiness, and a verse excerpt from the Ladies Magazine in 1786 titled A young lady's advice to an acquaintance lately married. Lady East, née Hannah Casamajor (1746-1810), was the wife of Sir William East, 1st. Bart. (1738-1819), of the Hall Place in Hurley, Berkshire; they married on 29 June 1763. Their daughter, Mary East (1765-1833), married Sir William Clayton, 4th Bart. (1762-1834) in 1785. Sir William was succeeded by his elder son, Sir Gilbert East, 2nd Bart (1764-1828). Abstract:
In a large room French aristocrats crowd across a table from Pitt who is taking money while handing a pen to the man opposite who holds a crown in his left arm as he throws coins toward Pitt's grasping hand. Above Pitt stands George III behind podium, gavel in one hand and another crown extended toward one of the many bidders shouting comments and prices. The King calls out, "This is a lot, gentlemen, of superior brilliancy to the last. This, this raises you above your fellows in a very high degree indeed. I pity your distresses from my soul, what, what, what was that you were saying about jewels, Madames, too high. You may ride over the necks of half the nation with this upon your coach. You may get in debt as fast as you please and never pay. Mind that gentlemen, never pay." The Queen walks up a ladder behind the King to retrieve more crowns from the shelves behind the King's podium, turning her head to say, "Pay some attention to that Lady's jewels, my love."
