The collection includes numerous lists of works Reynolds saw while visiting Italian museums, houses, and private collections; a pencil drawing of a country house; and an undated letter regarding "the beautiful Episode of Abradatas and Panthea": of this episode, he writes, "it occurred to me that this Story might furnish to the pencil a Suite of Subjects." Other items include a note on Raphael's "School of Athens"; an "Ode, Inscribed to Sir Abraham Hume, on his painting two beautiful Pictures of Views near his seat at Wormley Herts"; and an anonymous criticism of Reynolds' last Discourse on painting and poetry which he had "delivered to the students of the Royal Academy."
