"Pitt (left), as a toreador, rides a rearing white horse (of Hanover) with a spear directed horizontally against a buil (John Bull) snorting fire and bleeding from many wounds. He wears a short tunic and sash; his saddle-cloth is a leopard-skin on which is a crest: the white horse of Hanover enclosed in a Garter ribbon inscribed 'Honi soit qui mal y pense', and surmounted by a crown. He looks alarmed and spurs his horse viciously. Two tiers of spectators in an arc of the arena are freely sketched. In the upper row George III looking through a glass is in the centre, on his left is the Queen, on his right Loughborough. The man next the Queen is (?) Grenville. In the lower tier Fox is conspicuous with (?) the Prince of Wales on his left; Sheridan stands behind them. The other spectators are members of the Opposition or ragamuffins. On the right the Temple of Fame is being demolished by the enemies of Britain. Many of the figures have numbers referring to notes engraved beneath the design. The central figure in the ministerial group is (4) Sandwich ("S--h") seated on the ground playing a violin, between two courtesans, each of whom holds a goblet of wine. He turns to one of them, saying, "D--mn the Navy, Give me t'ther Glee"; she holds a torn paper inscribed "How merrily we live". An open book, "Catchs Glees", in front of him, is supported by a wine-bottle. In the left corner of the print is (5) North (“N--h”) seated on a small sack inscribed “Budg[et]”, he is yawning, his arms stretched above his head. Three men stand behind him: a man in Elizabethan dress wearing a tall hat and ruff who is (9) “R--by [Rigby] in the Character of Bobadil”. He says (apparently of Sandwich) “I would he were in the Bottomless Pit.” ... "A satire on the taxes on windows, coal, soap, &c. In the foreground a small cart laden with coals is drawn (right to left) by an ass harnessed in front of an ox. A carter stands by the ox, wearing a cap inscribed 'No tax upon Caps'; he says: "I hope we shall sheam Measter P------t and meak him to blush for want of more wit." The ass says, "The tax upon Horses is enough to make a Dumb Ass speak." Behind the coal-cart is a woman standing outside a cottage door (right), her hands in a wash-tub. She says: "Is that Mr P------t I wish he was nigh for instead of the Soap he makes me use Lie." A large three-storied house stands at right angles with the cottage, it has a gabled pediment. Out of thirty-two windows all but seven have been blocked up. A visitor stands, one foot on the doorstep, pointing to a man who stands behind him, saying, "The Honble Mr P------t desires to know whether Esqr Blockup is at home...". A servant in livery at the door holds a lighted candle, saying, "I hope His Honour will excuse our darkness it is to save Taxes". Corwall, the Speaker sitting below the rostrum, records bids in the "Sundry acts." In front of him stands Thurlow in Chancellor's robes making dismissive comment on "nonsensical bidings of those common fellows," i.e. members of the House of Commons who leave through the door on the left. Last of them, Fox, turns back vowing to bid "with spirit" for lot 1, "rights of the people in 558 vol." held on display by Henry Dundas. A reference to the dissolution of the Parliament by the King on March 25.
