Abstract:: "Brougham, in wig and gown, stands in Old Square, Lincolns Inn, the roof of the Hall, which forms a background, being so inscribed; houses are on the right. He carries on his head, which is in profile to the right, a tray, inscribed London College; this supports a neo-Gothic building with pinnacles and a clock-tower; tiny trees and figures in academic dress round the building show the scale. From its four corners rise labels inscribed in large letters, Etymology, Orthography, Prosody, Syntax. He says Who'I buy? very cheap, very free. From one shoulder hangs a brief-bag inscribed Subscriptions; from the other a ribbon supporting a handsomely bound book: List of Share Holders. Round his waist is a hoop which also encircles the waists of five little puppets: a man in archaic court-dress, holding a feathered hat, next a stout lady holding a fan and a large purse (? the Duke of St. Albans (as Falconer) and Mrs. Coutts, cf. British Museum Satires No. 14875), a fashionably dressed man in top-hat and furred and frogged coat, and Lord Eldon holding the mace and the Purse of the Great Seal. On the ground is a toy horse on wheels ridden by a yokel in a smock."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:: The second drawing in a series of twelve on modern morals, a tradition established earlier in the 18th century by artists such as William Hogarth. In this series, twin brothers are bestowed an equal fortune. One brother, Edward, husbands his wealth and on his death, passes on his fortune; whilst the other brother, Charles, squanders his, leaving his family destitute and In this second drawing, Charles stands in an elegant room as he is measured for new cloths by a tailor who kneels to his right with a tape measure raised to Charles's leg; on the floor at his feet is a bolt of fabric and a scissors. Behind them on the right, a servant holds up a large silver urn for Charles's approval; it is reflected in one of two large Venetian mirrors on the wall behind, the second being hung by two servants. On the left, a woman in a large hat sits in an chair beside a round tea table holding another bolt of fabric; she sits in front of a large window through which is seen a elegant square with an equestrian statue. Abstract:: A small audience sitting on benches on a tribune next to the equestrian statue of Cosimo I de' Medici in Piazza della Signoria, watching a military parade of the guards of the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo of Lorena (1765-1790), son of the Empress Maria Theresa of Habsburg and brother of Joseph II. The soldiers, forming an L-shaped cordon and led by four battalion officers, are recognizable by their tricorns and the bayonets. At the center of the square, under the grand building of Palazzo Vecchio, stands a troop of drummers. Figures in the the foreground include a group of cavalrymen bearing a banner and followed by a cart on the right; a lady and gentleman waiting for a landau carriage at center; and a figure, maybe a soldier on look-out, watching the scene in Palazzo Uguccioni's shadow on the left
