In Greek., Script: Written in a large, bold minuscule by a single scribe., Three miniatures of good quality in Western style added later (19th century?) on blank folios: f. 1v, Sts. Basil, John Chrysostom and Gregory of Nazianzus, all in priestly vestments, in an elaborate red border; f. 23v, Mother of God between two angels swinging censers; f. 53v, Christ on a bier, in front of a patriarchal cross, flanked by angels swinging a censer and burning incense. Original decoration: elaborate headpieces, 4- to 2-line initials with stylized florals, plain 1-line initials and headings, all in red., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Diced brown calf, gold-tooled, with a black label. On the spine, "LITURG. GRAEC. M. S.".

In Greek and Latin., Script: Written by two scribes in clumsily formed Greek minuscule: Scribe 1, ff. 1r-5v, 41r-42v (he signs himself brother Jacobus on f. 42r); Scribe 2, ff. 6r-39r (an unusually large and thick script). Latin added on ff. 39v-41r in gothic cursive of 15th or 16th century. Marginal notes in Greek by various later hands., Initials very crudely done, in various styles and several shades of red. Rubrics throughout. Some scribblings in the margins, including a cow on f. 25v., Folios 1, 2, 3, 41, and 42 are all torn, so that significant portions of the text are missing., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Notes added by various hands of 14th-15th centuries., Drawings of ships, towers and merchants in ink, with added yellow, brown, green, red and blue; many diagrams. Crude 2- and 1-line initials in red, with guide-letters for rubricator showing beneath; headings in red., Repair of f. 1 with later paper; some loss of text. Repairs at outer edges on this and other folios do not affect text., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Rigid vellum case with paste paper back endleaf and pastedowns. Central fold of each bifolium has been reinforced with a strip of parchment.

Description:
In German and Latin., Script: Text written in formal gothic by one scribe. Prayers added on the flyleaves, front and back, by several later hands in italic of the 17th century and later. 2- and 1-line initials in blue-grey or orange-tinted red. 1-line initials within the text, with red stroke. Extensive rubrication in orange-tinted red., and Binding: 16th-17th centuries. Sewn on three single, round, vegetable fiber cords laced into wooden boards. "Made" endbands glued on and extending onto the outer face of the boards. Red edges and numerous place marks of vellum or tawed skin on the fore-edge. The spine rounded and lined. Covered in dark brown calf with two brass catches on the upper board and brass clasps hinged to the lower. The lower board is detached and one clasp and some leather at head and tail of the spine are wanting.

In Latin., Watermarks: similar to Briquet Lettre P 8619 and 8625., Script: Written in a well formed running hand by a single scribe who has been identified as Freiherr von Greifenclav. Divisions for indexing carefully noted in margins., Large penwork initials of mediocre quality, in red and blue; foliage designs in center of letters and penwork borders, in red, are sometimes accompanied by vulgar green dots. Many simple initials, 7- to 1-line, in red or blue; running titles in red. Rubricated throughout., and Binding: Between 1850 and 1900. Mottled, brown calf case, gold-tooled with monogram of comte Paul Riant on spine. Detached from bookblock.

In Greek., Watermarks: Harlfinger Chapeau 74., Script: Written by a single scribe in tall, upright minuscule., Decorative initials, 6- to 5-line, in red with simple floral designs; rubrics throughout., and Binding: 16th-17th centuries. Three original chain-stitched supports, the thread laced into square-edged, flush, wooden boards grooved on the edges. The beaded, colored endbands are sewn on cords which are attached in holes in the edges of the boards. The edges are painted with a red and black interlace design, the spine smooth and round. Covered in brown goatskin, blind-tooled with concentric borders, different on each board, the central panels filled with flowers and small diamonds. One pin hole in the edge of the upper board, three holes for a strap in the lower. Rebacked. According to A. R. A. Hobson, the binding originated in Crete.
