In Latin., Script: copied by one hand writing Italian Gothica Hybrida Libraria, with a preference for round r and d with relatively short shaft., Paragraph marks in red. All the majuscules, those at the opening of the verses and the others, are heightened with dark yellow. The Satires open with a 2-line flourished initial (a 3-line flourished initial for Satire 6) with marginal extensions, alternately in red with purple penwork and blue with red penwork., and Binding: 20th-21st century. Plain brown leather over cardboard. Yellowish paper endleaves.

In Latin., Watermarks: similar to Briquet Lettre R.8941 and Harlfinger Fleche 12., Written in humanistic script by three scribes. The principal scribe, Franciscus Seroddi Centinomius Phylaretus, wrote ff. 1r-72v and 79r-84v; he signed the manuscript on ff. 72v and 84v. Scribe 2 wrote ff. 74r-78v and Scribe 3 the notes on ff. 85r-87v. Marginal and interlinear glosses in several contemporary hands., Argumenta of Guarino of Verona in red rustic capitals preceding each title; spaces for decorative initials never filled., and Binding: Sixteenth century (?). Vellum stays. Original sewing on three slit, tawed straps. Primary, plain and secondary, beaded endbands on twisted, tawed cores, laid in grooves and pegged or nailed. Spine lined with tawed skin, mostly lacking. Straps laced and pegged or nailed into beech boards covered in (originally) brick-red leather, blind-tooled with an inscription in a border around an inner panel of overlapping circles interspersed with dots. Four flower-shaped bosses on each board and two catches on the lower one. Two bosses and clasp straps wanting.

In Greek., Watermarks: Briquet Ancre 592 and similar to Briquet Arbalete 744, Tete de boeuf 14867 and Harlfinger Ancre 83., Script: Written in two distinct hands. Scribe 1 was responsible for the commentary and left ample space to supply the text of Hesiod; he did not complete his task. Scribe 2 supplied the first two verses of each Hesiod passage under discussion, wrote the final twelve lines of commentary contained in the codex (ff. 68v-69r), and added the heading and initials in red. All the additions of Scribe 2 are in a darker ink and bolder style of writing; he is the same scribe as that in MS 257, and as Scribe 3 in MS 290 and Scribe 1 in MS 490., Two headpieces in black ink (ff. 1r, 9r); heading and two initials on f. 1r in red., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Paper case, "alla rustica". The name of Tzetzes is still legible on front cover. Both the style of binding and the hand on the front cover are the same as those for Beinecke MS 290.

Scribe 1 (ff. 1r-35v) writes in an elaborate minuscule with heavy vertical strokes and uses a pen which gives considerable shading. Scribe 2 (ff. 36r-65v) writes a minuscule which slants to the right, and has shading similar to that of Scribe 1. Scribe 3 (ff. 66r-84v) writes in an upright minuscule with little shading., Headpiece, 2-line initial and heading on f. 3r in dark red., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Brown calf, blind-tooled.

Numerous annotations in the margins by contemporary and later hands., Two miniatures, f. 1r, an enthroned pope holding an open book and symmetrically flanked by ecclesiastical and secular parties, and f. 96r, a Franciscan monk presenting a book to an enthroned pope with clerical and lay attendants. Full border for text on f. 1r, constructed of solid panels, gold and red with white filigree, filled with two karyatid figures, a cleric, and a man in a blue robe. Partial border in lower margin, 3 medallions in blue, pink and red, with a papal portrait in half length, an angel, and a third subject now effaced. The medallions are connected by lozenges, green, blue and red with scrolling vines in blue, red, and green with white filigree and gold dots. 32 marginal figures in various costumes, among them several clerics, knights and an angel, often in animated poses. Numerous illuminated initials, 6- to 3-line in pink, blue or grey on blue, red, pink and gold grounds with white filigree. Foliage serifs in pink, red, grey and blue with white highlights. 39 initials with bust-length figures. Remaining initials in pink and red with white filigree. Calligraphic initials, alternating in red and blue with blue and red penwork scrolls. Plain initials and paragraph marks alternate in red and blue., and Binding: Fifteenth century (?), Italy. Limp vellum case, restored.
