"A street scene. An artisan staggers forward, dismayed at the disappearance of a woman who has fallen head first down a cellar whose flap has been left open. Her legs and petticoats issue from the small aperture. Behind is a window in which are bottles inscribed 'Cordials & Compounds'. A placard of clasped hands suggests a brothel. "A road-side scene; two horsemen stand by their horses outside a farrier's shed (left). One horse is held by a youth, the farrier stands beside it arguing with the rider who stands with his whip under his arm. The second (right) stands behind, beside his horse's head (its body being cut off by the right margin of the print), looking gloomily down at his watch. The shed is an open stone building with a pent-house roof; a farrier's hand and arm are just visible within it. Behind is a church tower among trees, its clock pointing to 8 o'clock. A scene outside the Bell Inn in which a country girl, Moll Hackabout, just arrived on the York Wagon, meets an extravagantly dressed bawd (Mother Needham); a clergyman on horseback fails to notice the encounter, but a lecherous old gentleman (Colonel Charteris) eyes the girl with anticipation. In the lower right the girl's initials "M.H." (M[ary?] Hackabout) are on her portmanteau, next to which is a basket with a goose with a note around its neck, "For my Loving Cosen in Tems Stret in London", presumably the person who has failed to meet her. In the background a woman hangs out her laundry on a balcony
