"Eight dissenting ministers, headed by Dr. Abraham-Rees, approach the King with an address whose inscription is the only title; it continues: 'in & about the Cities of London & Westmr We your Majesty s loyal and faithful...' Rees, a bulky 'Encyclopedia' in his coat-pocket, puts one foot on a step leading to a doorway within which are visible the legs of the seated King, and his right. hand, which rests on a wall-box from which issues a paper: 'Bramah Patent Water [C]losets'. Just outside the door, holding his long wand of office, Salisbury, the Lord Chamberlain (actually Dartmouth, cf. British Museum Satires No. 10283A), stands stiffly looking over the heads of the Addressers, who are ushered in by a beef-eater on the extreme left. Rees is scarcely caricatured except for a grotesque stalk-like neck which issues absurdly from a wide coat-collar. Behind him is Theophilus Lindsey, holding his hat and a big umbrella. Most of the other six are probably portraits, but two may be generalized sectaries with lank hair. All have sour, apprehensive expressions. A quasi-Tudor window suggests St. James's Palace. "The Queen, short and grotesque but not burlesqued, takes Bergami's left arm, looking up at him amorously; he looks down complacently at her. He is tall, handsome, florid, with much curling black hair, moustache and whiskers, and wears three orders (see British Museum Satires No. 13810); a miniature of the Queen hangs from his neck (see British Museum Satires No. 13858). His much-braided (blue) tunic and white trousers embroidered with red mould his stalwart figure. She holds a pagoda-shaped parasol, wears an absurd hat of Lancer type, a décolletée over-dress open from the high waist to show frilled drawers or trousers. From her neck dangles a large miniature of Bergami. The pair are watched by a man and woman, Italian witnesses (see British Museum Satires No. 13762, &c.), who register astonishment in the middle distance. In the background is the Villa d'Este, on the shore of Lake Como. Below the title: 'Sure such a pair were never formed to meet by Nature' [adapted from Sheridan's 'Duenna', cf. She wears a dress cut very low, with short puffed sleeves, a small hat supporting two tall feathers and showing curls surrounding her face. A miniature on a long double chain is attached to her corsage. She holds a small round box of some cosmetic. Behind her a parasol lies on a table, with a ring in place of ferrule. Behind this stands an ornate harp, with three pedals, decorated with a winged female figure and roses, a suitable instrument for the display of rounded arms.
