- In Latin., Script: Written by a single scribe in a precise round gothic bookhand., Illuminated by Cristoforo Cortese, ca. 1420. Fine historiated initial (12-line) on f. 1r, the author seated at a lectern, pink, purple, green, red, and blue foliage on a gold ground, edged in black, with delicate white highlights; an exuberant vine and foliage border in three margins; the upper margin with a bar, gold and blue, with white highlights. Eight illuminated initials (9- or 8-line) on ff. 14v, 29v, 45r, 61r, 79r, 98v, 115r, 132r in the same style, borders in outer margin. Fine penwork initials throughout, blue with red penwork or vice versa (7- to 4-line). Several lines following initials written in ornate majuscules widely spaced on every other line, filled in with sepia penwork (some left unfinished, especially near end of manuscript). 2-line initials, blue with red or red with blue penwork, less ornate than above. Rubrics missing for major text divisions; paragraph marks in red or blue., Borders cut out on ff. 1r, 45r, and 79r, replaced with parchment, with initials and borders partially restored., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Mottled calf case, gold-tooled.

Marginal and interlinear annotations in less formal scripts., 8 large initials, 10- to 7-line, of poor quality, pink against gold ground thickly edged in black, filled with stylized foliage, green, orange, and yellow on blue ground. Foliage serifs, pink, blue, orange and yellow with white filigree extending into margins to form partial borders. Gold balls, thickly edged in black. Numerous small initials, 5- to 3-line, pink against gold ground edged in black, filled with stylized foliage, orange and yellow on blue ground. Numerous flourished initials, 2- to 1-line, alternate in red and blue with brown or red penwork. Headings in red by at least two rubricators. Paragraph marks in blue for chapters in tables preceding each book; in red and blue for text., Folio 1r damaged with some loss of text. Most of the decoration is badly rubbed and stained., and Binding: Nineteenth century, Italy. Brown leather case, blind- and gold-tooled. - In Latin., Script: Copied by one hand in Humanistica Cursiva Libraria, marked by a curious form of r resembling c., Undecorated. The spaces for headings and initials are blank, except in the first quires, where a 16th-century hand has added some rubrics and plain initials; red capitals and a few contemporary red headings are added on ff. 77v-91r., Top edges severely trimmed. The top corners of ff. 189-249 repaired. Outer edges of ff. 156-166 damaged by mice (?)., and Binding: Early, brown undecorated leather over pasteboard. Spine with four raised bands. Blue sprinkled edges.

- In Latin., Script: Written by a single scribe in fere-humanistic script. Marginal and interlinear notes in several contemporary and later hands., On f. 3r, a good historiated initial, 7-line: the author in armor, holding his book; thick, curling foliage forms, pink, orange, blue, and green, on an irregular gold ground, edged in black. Nine illuminated initials (ff. 16r, 29v, 43r, 57r, 72r, 85v, 98r, 111v, and 126r) to open Books 2-10, composed of foliage, as above, and striated color strips, in vibrant blue, orange, crimson, mauve, green, and occasionally yellow, highlighted in white and variations of the same basic hues. 4-, 2-line initials, blue with red penwork or vice versa. Book numbers at top of page, red and blue; rubrics throughout. Remains of guides for rubricator., and Binding: 15th-16th centuries. Resewn on four tawed, slit straps laced through the edge of wooden boards and nailed in channels which are filled in with plaster. There is a piece of leather at the exit from one tunnel and what may be the tips of nails just inside the channel so earlier supports may have been of leather, nailed twice. The endbands, sewn on twisted leather cores laid in grooves, were tied down through a leather spine lining, the embroidery with three beads. The edges are gilt with a design scratched on them, the spine square. Covered in dark brown goatskin with corner tongues, blind-tooled with a star in a circle with wide rope interlace panels above and below, inside concentric outer borders. Small diamonds and dots on the spine. Four brass catches on the lower board and stubs of velvet straps nailed to the upper. One joint cracked and repaired and one endband added.

- In Latin., Large historiated initial, f. 5r, 17-line, mauve with white filigree and stylized foliage in red and green against gold ground, thickly edged in black. Initial filled with a half-length portrait in profile of a man in black robes and a black cap, probably Dionysius de Burgo Sancti Sepulchri. Foliage serifs, blue, red, mauve, and green with gold balls thickly edged in black extending into the upper and inner margins to form a partial border, which extends as stylized foliage scrolls, blue and purple into the lower margin. Gold balls partially or completely flaked. Numerous illuminated initials, 9- to 4-line, mauve with white highlights, filled with stylized foliage, green, red and blue on blue grounds with white filigree. Initials for the text against gold grounds, thickly edged in black; initials for commentary against blue ground with white filigree. Some initials with foliage serifs, pink, red and/or blue and gold balls thickly edged in black extending into margins. Pen and ink initials, 3-line, alternate blue and red with red and purple penwork. Headings in red. Plain initials touched with yellow., and Binding: Fifteenth century, Spain. Own parchment endleaves, one cut out in back. Original sewing on five tawed skin slit straps laid in channels on the outside of wooden boards and fastened. Yellow edges. The natural color, plain wound endbands are sewn through the spine lining on tawed skin cores which are laid in grooves on the outside of the boards. The spine is lined with vellum extending inside the boards between supports. Covered in red-brown goatskin blind-tooled with an X in an outer frame and crosses made of decorated circles in the divisions. Four fastenings, truncated diamonds at head and tail and shields at the fore edge, on the lower board. The clasp straps are attached with star-headed nails. Traces of five small round bosses on each board. Traces of incised inscription near the head of the lower board. Spine leather missing.
