Mason sent his proposed alterations to Horace Walpole in a Ietter, 8 May 1769; Horace Walpole thanked him warmly, but wrote on Mason's letter that he did not wish to adopt the alterations. Mason mentioned the book in his letter to Horace Walpole, 15 May 1781; after Mason's death it is first reported in a letter (tipped in the book) from Lord Carlingford to F.W.
