"George IV as the 'Great Babe' lies asleep in his cradle rocked by Lady Conyngham, while Wellington, seated before a pier-glass, places the crown on his own head. The glass reflects the dark emaciated features of British Museum Satires No. 15520. The Duke wears a uniform with boots and sword. On a table below the glass the sceptre and orb lie on a cushion. Lady Conyngham, with a towering coiffure as in British Museum Satires No. 15508, croons: Oh slumber my darling | The time may soon come | When thy rest may be broken | By Trumpet & Drum [the last three words in large letters]. The infant sucks a thumb; a gouty foot projects from the coverlet. On the floor is a line of toys: a sailing boat on wheels, a model of Buckingham Palace reconstructed by Nash as in British Museum Satires No. 15668, a giraffe (see British Museum Satires No. 15425), a Life Guard on a toy horse, a Foot-Guard, a dismantled or unfinished ship resting on a prostrate toy soldier. "Wellington on the extreme left, seated in profile on his white horse, looks down at three officers who heap trophies at his feet. He says: "Why! here's enough for three nights Illumination!" An officer answers: "Three times Three! My Lord!!" Another, holding two eagles with their tattered tricolour flags, holds out a marshal's baton, saying, "Here's Marshal Jordens Rolling-pin." The third, wearing hussar uniform, and holding an eagle with a flag inscribed 'La Emperu . . .', points behind and to the right, saying, "And here comes their Last Cannon!!" In the middle distance a soldier is dragging after him downhill a cannon by a rope attached to the muzzle; he says, grinning, "By St Patrick I think we have taken all they brought from Parts!"; a drummer bestrides the gun beating his drum and shouting, and a third man stands astride it on the gun-carriage, waving a Union flag and his shako and shouting "Huzza Huzza". Two asses are harnessed tandem to the gun-carriage and are being dragged backwards, one slides on its haunches the other rears; on each is a French soldier wearing a bonnet rouge; one says: "By Gar every ting goes backwards with us." On the hill lies a dead soldier' burlesqued and wearing a bonnet rouge, his legs raised from the ground by his huge spurs; near him is a decapitated body with the detached head still wearing a grenadier's cap. "George IV, dressed as Henry VIII and with cavalry boots decorated with rosettes, sits on the throne (right), shrinking angrily from oxen wearing civic gowns who bow, presenting petitions. All the horns of the oxen are tipped with tiny caps resembling caps of Liberty; a slightly larger pair protects the prongs of a fork held up on the extreme left above the massed heads of the beasts. On this a placard is speared: 'Petitions from every Part of the World--(Hole's and Corner's excepted) to Dismiss the Ministers-- signed by upwards of 999,999--Millions of the Brute Creation.' The petitions of the four beasts in the front row are headed: 'Petition of Lord Mayor & Citizens of London to Dismiss Ministers'; 'Petitions from every part of England & Wales to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; '. . . ions from every Part of Scotland to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; 'Petitions from every part of Ireland . . . [ut supra]'. Hooves rise from cattle behind holding more petitions: 'from Europe'; 'From Asia'; 'from Africa'; 'from America'; 'from every Honest Man'. The canopied throne is raised on a dais of three steps, the footstool is a cushion supported on a (carved) elephant; but the King's feet are drawn back. His right hand is on his hip; he holds an oddly shaped sceptre in the left hand. The back of the throne is framed by carved mannikins with shackled hands and feet; a large crown rests on the heads of the two uppermost. The back of the canopy has a pattern of writhing serpents. Ministers, much caricatured, stand on the right and left of the dais. In the foreground (right) and on the King's left, Wellington, with the apron and steel of a butcher (as in British Museum Satires No. 13288), with gauntlet gloves and with a star on his tunic, holds a blood-stained battle-axe. Sidmouth, as Court-fool, sits in profile to the left on an apothecary's mortar, wearing a double-peaked fool's cap and a star, and holding a bladder which is his clyster-pipe. Behind is Eldon, scowling savagely and holding the mace and the Purse of the Great Seal. A bishop holding a crosier stands on either side of the throne, behind the Ministers. A staff supports an emblematical cask which a naked Bacchus bestrides. On the King's right is Liverpool, holding a tall staff to which a green bag is tied (see British Museum Satires No. 13735). Next him is Castlereagh, blandly sinister, holding a scourge, and with a bunch of keys hanging from his belt; he stares at the petitioners. A tiny Vansittart is beside him, in his Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown, with an 'X' on his breast above a chequered pattern, hung diamond-wise. Immensely fat and absurd beefeaters stand along the back of the room under quasi-Gothic windows of stained glass. All hold tridents and turn their eyes towards the petitioners, grinning grotesquely. Each window is centred by an escutcheon on which a decanter is the chief object. The upper part of each is filled by a design of three large peacock's feathers (see British Museum Satires No. 13299). The Gothic roof, caricaturing that at Carlton House (cf. British Museum Satires No. 11727), is filled with tracery in the form of antlers."--British Museum online catalogue

"A pugilistic encounter between two old market-women who are Eldon (left) and Wellington (right). Eldon is much the stouter and more purposeful, facing his enemy grimly and aggressively. He has a basket of oranges (emblem of the Orange Lodges) beside him, and wears a flat wide-brimmed hat. Wellington wears a soldier's coat over his skirt and apron (as beggar-women or basket-women often did, cf. (e.g.) BM Satires No. 15763). His profile is apprehensive, his hands loosely closed and on the defensive. Each has a bottle-holder; that of Eldon is John Bull, a stout yokel who puts his hand on his principal's bulging posterior, saying, 'Welldone--old Mother Baggs--you have got the best bottom after all. see what it is to have a good Constitution--give it her--she has'ent got the Mounshears to deal with now.' Wellington's supporter is a bare-legged Irish ragamuffin with a pipe thrust in his little hat. He capers excitedly, putting a hand on Wellington's back to push him forward, saying, 'Murder ye ould cat kape your fists Tight--or you'I let the Ould Orange-Woman bate ye clane.' In the background is a freely sketched crowd of spectators, women of St. Giles or Billingsgate. Two only are characterized: a fat woman with parson's wig and bands, with a basket of 'Oxford Sauce' on her head, looks over her shoulder at a handsome young virago (Peel), who is shouting at her, to say: 'Come give us none of your Jaw--Mother peel'."--British Museum online catalogue

"Wellington sits behind a small cloth-covered table flanked by eight other representations of himself, as depicted in recent caricatures, apparently all by W. Heath. The arrangement is evidently that of Charles Mathews' 'At Homes', see British Museum Satires No. 14714, &c., Wellington, like Mathews, being in propria persona at the table. In this guise he wears the robes (indistinguishable from Coronation robes) and collar of the Garter and the order of the Golden Fleece and a (crown-like) ducal coronet; his head is turned in profile to the right. Immediately below him, the head and hands of another Wellington, who is crouching on the floor, project from the tablecloth; he grasps a royal crown, and wears a cap coloured blue and resembling a tam-o'-shanter, but perhaps intended for a coronet. The other Wellingtons, all standing (left to right): [1] A mute as in British Museum Satires No. 15501, in profile to the right. [2] A Grenadier, full-face and rigidly at attention, much as in British Museum Satires No. 15768, but without the musket. [3] A ratcatcher stooping to the left and touching his hat, the cage in his left hand (cf. British Museum Satires No. 15806). [4] Aged and cloaked, wearing spectacles, with bowed head, he clasps a cross in both hands. [5] The old woman in a soldier's coat of British Museum Satires No. 15721, facing, and apparently in angry altercation with, the seated Wellington. [6] The coachman of British Museum Satires No. 15731, in profile to the left, holding shaft and lash of his whip as if they were the reins of a four-in-hand which he is driving. [7] Wellington in uniform, directed to the left, wearing his plumed cocked hat and holding up with a furtive expression a sword with a damaged blade in a dilapidated scabbard. [8] A mummy-case with an aperture to show Wellington's head with the forefingers compressing his mouth; below the aperture is the word 'Mum'. (Apparently from a satire on Wellington's silence as to his intentions on Catholic Relief until the eve of the opening of Parliament, see British Museum Satires No. 15659.)
