She looks at him with a disparaging expression. In the foreground (left) a young man is talking ardently to a pretty young woman who inspects the room through an eye-glass. In the background (right) couples are dancing with great vigour and display of leg, probably in a cotillon (cf. BMSat 7441). Above them and on the extreme right is the musicians' gallery. The roof is raised and through it projects an enormous ostrich feather, rising from an aigrette and curls, which also extend above the roof.
