Description:: "Yale Scientist Makes Discovery of African Sleeping Sickness....Dr. David Weinman, II, Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Yale School of Medicine, reported here today (October 30, 1957) that he had succeeded in restoring infectivity to inactive Trypanosoma--the tiny protozoa that causes African Sleeping Sickness. Dr. Weinman, who has just returned from a year's field trip to West Africa (he points to sleeping sickness in Uganda, in photo above), described his findings as the first step in unlocking the biological secret of infectivity. More research is needed to solve the puzzle, he said."
