Abstract:
In a squalid room Moll Hackabout, wrapped in a sheet, is dying while two doctors (Richard Rock and Jean Misaubin) argue over their remedies. Her serving-woman reaches out to them in alarm to get their attention for the invalid, while another woman rifles through Moll's portmanteau (with her initials as in Plate 1). A small boy knelling next to Moll's chair scratches his head as he turns a joint of meat roasting in front of the fire while a pot overflows on the grate. An over-turned table with an advertisement "Practical scheme ... 'Anodyne" litters the floor in the foreground

Loveday amateur printmaker?, First line of text: Sir, you are desired to attend the funeral of Dr. John Ward, from his apartments in Gresham College to the burying-ground at Bunhill ... the 24th of October, 1758 ..., and Lewis Walpole Library impression: With extensive contemporary annotations including a transcription of the Latin text on Ward's monument on the verso. Newspaper clipping of his obituary from October 18 mounted above the image and numbered "323". The sheet has been trimmed with a loss of the name of the addressee and other text[?] on verso and recto. The figure of Time reclines against a broken column surrounded by symbols of destruction: a collapsing church tower, dead trees, a bankrupcy notice served on Nature, a tombstone, a clock without hands, Phaeton falling from his chariot, a will, a shop-sign for "The World's End", a gallows, a burning impression of Hogarth's print "The Times" and broken objects, including an artist's palette, hour-glass, crown, rifle, bell, bottle, and broom. Two medallions on either side of the caption and their surrounding text concern the Line of Beauty. Three more columns of text between the medallions include quotes in Latin from Tactius and Maximus of Tyre, with an English translation
