A volume containing 145 pattern drawings for tattoos, including images of men, women, serpents, dragons, mottoes, birds, butterflies, fish, and patriotic figures for the United States and Great Britain, circa 1915. Four of the drawings are on translucent paper that is mounted in the volume. The majority of the drawings are ink line drawings, while two drawings are colored with crayon and depict dragons, one in a flight with an eagle. The author of the volume may be C. B. Davis, a tattoo artist based in London, Great Britain.

"An engraving showing Mr. Welbore Ellis in the character of Guy Faux, approaching the Houses of Parliament at night, and holding a dark lanthorn. Three of the buttresses of the building, illuminated by the lanthorn, are inscribed severally: -- "Freedom of Election", "Bill of Rights", "Magna Charta". The Earl of Bute appears in the background, dressed as a Scotchman, and by way of signal waving a baton. Mr. Ellis is watched from Heaven by the Eye of Providence. This design is a reproduction of a portion of Samuel Ward's famous print described in this Catalogue as "The Destruction of the Spanish Armada", British Museum Satires No. 41; see likewise British Museum Satires No. 43."--British Museum catalogue

"Design in an oval. A burlesque coat of arms symbolizing the supposed character of the Unitarians represented by Priestley. After the title is engraved: 'Address'd to those Peaceable Subjects of this Kingdom who prefer the Present happy Constitution to that Anarchy & Bloodshed so Zealously sought for by these restless advocates for Priestly & Paine's Sophistical Tenets.' A printed explanation is attached to the print. The shield rests on a vulture which grasps in its beak and claws the motto: 'Under these Garbs do we act.' On a shaded (sable) ground a harpy suckles young harpies and holds up the cap of Liberty with a pendent banner on which is a crown surrounded by drops of blood. On a border round the shield are ten groups of ten intertwined serpents. The crest is the Devil and a number of fiends attacking a glory of rays surrounding a triangle, symbolizing the Trinity. The supporters are (dexter) Religion, a veiled woman holding a book and cross, her foot on a skull, and (sinister) Hypocrisy, a woman with the feet of a bird of prey, reading a book, and holding (concealed) a dagger with a notched blade; a trumpet is slung to her waist; a small wallet containing 'a bandelure' (see BMSat 7829) hangs from her neck in place of a cross. "Codrington, wearing the star of the Bath, sits on a gun-carriage on the deck of his ship, looking sternly up at an old scarred and pigtailed sailor who addresses him with an expression of consternation: Please your Honor's Glory there's something wrong in the wind, for they've clapt a Marine at the Helme of Old England, and He and the other lob lollies have made Sombody (God bless Him) to call our Glorious Victory an UNTOWARD EVENT And when they where told to belay their jawing tackel they shifted the wind and began to blow another way. Codrington answers Aye Aye Jack they or we must be fools. In his right hand is his sword, the point resting on the deck, the blade inscribed with Nelson's Trafalgar signal: England expects every Man to do his duty. He holds a document: Treaty of London. His back is to the sea where a rocky promontory (right) forms Wellington's profile, looking towards Codrington, a row of tiny gun-emplacements forming a grim smile (cf. "The Prince of Wales (left) leads a goat with the head of Mrs. Fitzherbert (right) to the door of the forecourt of a large town-house, held partly open by the Duchess of York. She says, "O Dunder & Wonder! - what Cratur is dat which you are bringing here ? - relation of mine, indeed? - no, no! - me know no Nanny-goat-Princess! - so set off, with your bargain, you poor - Toasted - Cheese! you! - for she sha'nt come in here, to poison the house! - off! - off! - off." The Prince, who wears in his hat a leek, with his motto, 'ich dien', answers, "Not open the Toor ? - Cot-splutter-a-nails - when Nanny is come to see you, herself? - vhy isn't Nanny a Princess too ? - & a Velch Princess? - and hur is come to visit hur Brothers & hur Sisters! - & not to let hur in? why the Voman is mad, sure!" In place of a star he wears a medallion enclosing a pair of goat's horns. He holds his goat by a ribbon wreathed with roses. Mrs. Fitzherbert has goat's horns and wears a coronet with the Prince's feathers; she looks up at him with an expression of dignified surprise. ...
