"John Bull (left), wearing a star centred by a heart: 'Queens Order of Knighthood', furiously kicks Italian witnesses from a quay into the sea, where (right) a boat waits to take them to a packet-boat. His bull-dog is about to bite, and he raises a massive bludgeon, kicking a lean grenadier with an empty sleeve, to whose back is tied a large green bag (see British Museum Satires No. 13735) inscribed 'Infernal Lies from Como' [cf. No. 13857]. On this capers a demon, holding a noose above the Italian's head, and in the left hand a little gibbet from which hangs a tiny effigy of the Grenadier with his bundle. The Italian holds a stiletto and wears a high cap with dangling bell on which are skull and cross-bones. J. B. shouts: "This is Freedom's own Land, 'tis the land of the Queen, Where no hired traducers shall ever be seen, Be off each vile Eunuch--be off high and low or I'll knock you to H--ll with an Englishmans blow!!" The Italian looks back to say: "If thus you pay Italian Spies I'll bring no more Infernal Lies" Another Italian wearing braided livery is knee-deep in the sea, he looks back angrily at John, holding dagger and pistol. A terrified foreigner, ragged but fashionable, leaps towards the water, exclaiming: "Diable!! Jean Anglaise [sic]." A woman with a bunch of keys, in full flight, pours the contents of a 'Pot de Chambre' over a grotesque lawyer (Leach), who is racing down steps to the water with a green bag of 'Lies from Milan'. She says: "Dis Pot contains mine Evidence--do taste it Signor Horse Leach, you vill find very strong proof of Guilt." Leach, looking over his shoulder, says: "This Business smells strong We have kept it too long" A sturdy sailor standing in a boat at the foot of the steps fends him off with a boat-hook, saying: "Shew me a clean bill of health signed Caroline or by G d you sha'nt come on board here."."--British Museum online catalogue

"An archaic iron-studded door, with posts and lintel of solid but ancient oak, represents the door of the 'COMMONS' [inscription on lintel]. Above: '"They of Rome are enter'd in our Counsels Sh.' ['Coriolanus', I. ii]. An old-clothes' man stands at the door in profile to the left gazing up at the inscription; he raises the knocker, a ring in the mouth of an angry lion's head. He is bearded, with an ultra-Jewish profile, and has three hats piled on his own, the topmost being a flaunting feminine erection. He wears a ragged and patched gaberdine, old-fashioned buckled shoes, and carries across his shoulder a large bag, from a hole in which projects a pig's foot (a pig in his poke). On his back is an open box of trinkets, containing watches. Close behind him stands a turbaned Turk, watching him with eager anxiety. The Jew: 'Come I sha--Open the door vill ye--I vants to come in--and heres a shentlemans a friend of mines--vants to come in too--dont be afeard--I dont vant a sheat for nothing--I can pay for it So help me Got.' A companion plate to Le Départ (British Museum satire no. 12362), satirizing the haste of the English to visit France in 1814 and their gluttony and bad dressing. The Frenchman who cooks a cat is a subject of English caricatures on the favourite theme of the beggarly Frenchman and well-fed Englishman. In this print. "A lean Englishman strides on to the quayside from an (invisible) gangway leading to the deck of a packet, which is seen below (right), covered with the heads of passengers, looking eagerly upwards. The furled sails and rigging are on the extreme right; a dove holding an olive-branch sits on a spar. A jovial French cook leads the Englishman, who grasps his left wrist; he points to a doorway on the extreme left, below the sign 'Au Bien Venu'. He holds the white cotton night-cap which was the cap of the French cook, but is not foppish as in English caricature, but manly and sturdy. The traveller is a grotesque figure wearing a hat shaped like a flower-pot, [this hat appears in almost all satires on English costumes in Paris, c. 1814; it is worn by a man dressed à l'Anglais in No. 53 of the 'Bon Genre Series' (? 1813): 'Cheveux à Cherubin. Chapeau en pot à fleurs. Redingote en Robe de Chambre'; cf. J.-P. de Bérenger, 'Les Boxeurs', 1814: Quoique leurs chapeaux sont bien laids / Goddam! moi j'aime les Anglais] long tail-coat, wrinkled breeches, and long ill-fitting gaiters on very thin legs. His profile has an absurdly heavy chin (cf. British Museum no. 12364), and he registers eager expectation. On a flap projecting from a window beside the door are peaches, grapes, pears, &c.
