"Italian witnesses, in a large bare room or warehouse, where three are being washed in a large bath by Castlereagh, Sidmouth, and Liverpool. The bath is inscribed: 'Waters of Oblivion. Non mi Recordo [sic]--Ministerial Washing Tub--!' The three witnesses are villainous-looking, and coloured brown. Castlereagh empties a bucket over the head of one, saying: "Can the Etheopean change his Colour." Sidmouth, plying comb and scrubbing-brush, says: "Or the leper his Spots." Liverpool turns to a lawyer (right) saying: "I never had such a dirty job in my life." The lawyer, Gifford the Attorney-General, answers: "We must have them perfect in their Story before they go." He holds a document inscribed 'Milan' [see British Museum Satires No. 13755, &c.]. A second lawyer sits at his feet, mending a pair of breeches. He says: "They are truely a filthy set, we must clear them of Vermin." The discarded garments of the men in the tub lie on the ground, with combs, a lump of 'Itch Ointment', and a box of 'Sulphor'. There are also two boxes: one (left) of 'Windsor Soap', the other (right), 'New Rigging from Monmouth Street' (where second-hand clothes were sold). Three ragged ruffians wait their turn, seated on the ground. Two play cards; one says: "Quel Maledetto Sacco"; the other responds "Ah! quel Sacco" (the Green Bag, see British Museum Satires No. 13735). On the wall behind them hang 'Italian Masks and Daggers just imported.' A high shelf runs round the room, on which stand a pile of 'Dutch Cheese', bottles of 'Italian Oil' and 'Botled Frogs', casks of 'Shalots and Garlick', 'Sour Grout', 'Portable Soup', 'Salt Herrings', 'Butter', a huge basket of 'Eggs', and three jars of 'Pickle'. Abstract:
A gathering of countrymen, lawyers, and sailors stare with shock and consternation at the carcass of a shark laying on a table before them. A countryman begins the dialogue with an exclamation, "Dang it if I ever saw such a thing in my life, why it would swallow a man alive!" while an attorney continues with a question, "Neighbor Stump says very true, I never saw anything like it in the whole course of my practice as a country attorney. Pray my friend what do you call it?" A sailor smugly jests, "Why it is a shark d'ye see according to the lubbers lingo on shore, but we gemmen in his Majesty's service call him a sea lawyer!!!

"Lord Lonsdale as Satan is seated in triumph, his right foot resting on a sack of 'Coals from the Infernal Pitt.' (Pitt gave Lowther his peerage, see BMSat 6579.) Peter Pindar (Wolcot) (left) kneels on one knee at his feet, with clasped hands, beseeching mercy. A lawyer (right) whose legs are twisted serpents crouches at his left hand writing 'Peter Pindar' in a book inscribed 'Black List'; he is the coachman of BMSat 8155. Lonsdale is a magnificently arrogant figure with horns, wings, and muscular legs which are bare from the knee, his toes being talons; he resembles the Satan of BMSat 6027. He wears an earl's coronet inscribed 'Evil be thou my Good', and a military coat with epaulettes. From his mouth issues two streams of flame ... In his left hand, which rests on his knee, is a flaming torch inscribed 'Epistle to Lord Lonsd[ale] by Peter Pindar'. Behind his head is a large halo from which radiate tongues of flame that reach to the margins of the design, each with an inscription. ... The last inscription points at the lawyer as the first does at Pindar. Pindar's clothes are ragged, toes protrude through a tattered shoe. ... From his pocket project two books: 'Odes upon Cowardice' and 'Odes of Importance alias Conciliatory Odes'. The latter, published in 1792, contained an 'Ode to Lord Lonsdale', in which Lonsdale is urged to imitate the King's forbearance towards 'the poet's harmless wit'; it is by no means abject, and threatens him with an independent jury and Erskine's irony. ... Lonsdale's attorney holds 'Briefs' and 'Writs' under his left arm, on which a brief-bag is hung. "In the foreground (left) is a crowd wielding battledores who send small puppet-like M.P.s high into the air. On the right is the House of Commons represented by a corner of a dilapidated building with a high Gothic doorway. To this men and one fat Billingsgate woman are hurrying with flat baskets on their heads, on which are heaped more M.P.s. The crowd is cheerful and in general fashionably dressed. They shout "No Corn Bill [often repeated]," "Keep the game alive," and "there he goes." One with patched clothes and the hat of a dustman or coal-heaver, shouts to his victim, a lawyer in wig and gown, "Now for it Mr Garrow." Most of the shuttlecock M.P.s register silent dismay; one with gouty legs exclaims "Oh! my Heels," another who is bald shouts "Oh! my head." Most of the 'mackerel' lie limply on their baskets; one struggles to rise, saying, "Faith & I never was in such a Flood before--I really beleive I'm dead--but However dead or alive an Irishman will always do his duty." Over the doorway is 'St Stephens.' in large letters. Within, the (burlesqued) Speaker is seen in his Chair, extending arms and legs in terrified astonishment; behind the table are two Clerks. Only the Government benches are visible; these are empty, but a man is indicated in the gallery. Outside, standing between the two groups of the mob, two constables holding their staffs consult gloomily. One says "We had better let them alone"; the other answers "I think so." George IV is shown as a grotesque sea monster, for which the following description is given below image: "He is of immence size, his head and face bear the appearance of a man, he has the neck of a bull, the body of a huge sea hog, the legs of an elephant, and the tail of a porpoise." The beast lies helpless on the shore facing right, emitting a plume from his mouth containing the words "debauchery", "trifling", "vice", "folly", etc. Queen Caroline's defense lawyers reign in the animal, Brougham on the left wielding a broom and Denman on the right holding a chain attached to the beast's collar. Broom exclaims: "At length I see thee! They death warrant's signed." Below him is written "The mighty Broom of Destruction", and a bundle labeled "more broom sticks" sits beside him. Denman stands at the mouth of a cave marked "A DEN", holding a club labeled "The Queens cause" and saying: "That blow from Broom will end thee." Below him is written "The intrepid Den-Man". Frogs, salamandars, snails, and other aquatic creatures enter the water at the feet of both men. Offshore a vessel, with the figurehead of Queen Caroline and flying a banner bearing her name, shoots and injures the monster, streams of blood with words such as "corruption", "bribery", and "perjury & ingratitude" flowing out of the wounds. In the water on either side of the ship, figures thrash about as they try to escape the scene. One in the group of men (politicians?) on the left says "Non mi Ricordo" as he struggles to stay afloat. The image is a copy of Hogarth's Midnight modern Conversation: A scene in a paneled room (in a public house?) with eleven men seated around a table in the center of which is a large punch-bowl decorated with Chinese figures. Wine bottles litter the floor and piled high on the mantelpiece. In the right corner a chamber pot overflows. One man in the foreground has fallen backwards off his chair; as he lands prostrate on the floor, one of his intoxicated companions staggers toward him, oblivious to the fact that his wine is spilling out over the prostrate man's head.
