- Business records of John P. Jones, eleven Nevada mill and mining companies, as well as the Pacific Reclamation Company, including statements of account, receipts, Nevada tax assessment documents, payrolls, and insurance policies. Records provide detailed descriptions of insured properties, day to day operational costs including the cost of equipment and supplies, and the names, wages, and duties of mine workers. Includes receipts for equipment and materials bought by W. B. Pless from Sonoma and San Francisco supply companies.
- Description:
- John P. Jones, mining investor and land speculator, earned his fortune in the silver mines of western Nevada after an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor of California. In 1873 Jones became a U. S. Senator for Nevada, a seat he held for thirty years. During his political career, Jones retained financial interest in several California and Nevada companies.
