Abstract:: "A fat 'cit', wearing a short brown wig, sits almost full-face between fire (left) and round table (right) on which are decanter, steaming glass, and smoking pipe. His face is contorted by a violent sneeze; in his left hand is his snuff-box, his right holds a pinch of snuff near his face. On his knee is a paper headed Parliamentary Debates. His dog looks up from between his feet, startled and annoyed. On the chimneypiece, the right part of which is visible, are a bust of Morpheus, a large shell, a squatting and obese Chinese nudity. Abstract:: "A companion print to British Museum Satires No. 6912; a similar group of men in a similar room stand or sit at a rectangular table singing from a large music-book held open on the table. Punch-bowl, wine-bottle, glasses, pipes, a tumbler are on the table which is covered by a heavy cloth. Their expressions are more serious than those of the catch-singers. Two men in the background are smoking, one of whom is lighting his pipe. A dog sits in the foreground looking up at the singers. The words of the glee are engraved beneath the print, beginning: 'Which is the properest Day to drink, Saturday, Sunday, Monday,'; republished state."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:: An innkeeper uses a bellows to clear heavy dense tobacco smoke from the tavern interior in response to a servant trying to identify his master in the crowd. The innkeeper proclaims "You say you want a little gentlemen in a brown wig. I have really so much smoking business in my parlour that 'till I make use of the bellows I can never distinguish a customer, I believe that is the gentleman you mean." The servant excitedly responds in a Cockney dialect "Yes, Yes, sure enough that be Master, but before he vanishes again, tell him that Missis has sent the street door key."

One (left) in profile to the right, very obese, is an old military officer with a wooden leg; next is a lean man in back view, next a stout man sits full face, and on the right is a thin man in profile to the left seated beside a rectangular table on which is a glass and a large jug. All have expressions of solemn vacuity. They emit clouds of smoke from mouth or pipe which fill the upper part of the bare room.
