"A man and woman sit facing each other beside the counter, which stretches across the design; he holds a jelly-glass and puts a spoonful to her mouth; she sits with open mouth and folded arms, a closed fan in one hand. A third customer leans on the counter, holding a jelly-glass and admiring through a lorgnette his own reflection in a mirror; this is the centre of the wall behind the counter, dividing two sets of shelves on which are neatly ranged canisters, glasses, packets, &c.
