Juan Pantoja y Arriaga, second mate of the frigate la Princesa, one of two ships (the other, la Favorita)on a voyage headed by Ignacio Arteaga to discover a Northwest passage north of San Francisco in 1779. La Princesa was commanded by Juan Francis de la Bodega y Cuadra., Purchased from F. Perez de Velasco by Hiram Bingham in October 1922. Account, by Fray Juan Antonio Garciá Riobó, of Ignacio Arteaga's expedition to continue Cuadra's discoveries of 1775. Arteaga left San Blas in 1779, explored Bucareli Sound, the Northwest Coast to Mt. St. Elias, returned by way of Cape Mendocino and San Francisco, and set out on a second journey to San Blas. Gabriel. Car. 5, Leg. 6 n. 12.", and The manuscript probably once belonged to the library of the College of San Fernando. Given to the library by William Robertson Coe.

The brig Lydia was on a fur trading voyage from Boston to the northwest coast of North America in 1805-1807, Capt. Samuel Hill in command. Along with the log, the volume contains an account of the rescue of John Thompson and John R. Jewitt from the Indians.

The brig Lydia was on a fur trading voyage from Boston to the northwest coast of North America in 1804-05, Capt. Samuel Hill in command. Along with the log the volume contains an abstract from Joel Richardson's journal regarding the Atahualpa massacre, the 1805 log of the Atahualpa which sailed from the northwest coast to Canton, China, and the 1807 log of the Swift which sailed from Canton to New York.
