- At top are three scenes of the unavoidable causes of dental appointment delays: a man with a terrible toothache asks to be seen; a woman faints in the dental chair and needs time to recover; a man finds the dental drill so painful that he asks the dentist to wait before continuing. Below are three scenes of avoidable causes of delays: a dentist stands in an office holding appointment cards of patients who have not arrived; two women in stylish clothes arrive simultaneously at the dentist office door, one is late and one is early; a woman stands with her hand on her hip, surrounded by her family and dog, and informs the dental assistant that the dentist should see them all
