Through a high Gothic window (right) two other Fellows look in, much amused. Behind him and against his chair is a table covered with punch-bowl, lemons, a decanter, bottles of 'Gin', 'Rum', and 'Coniac', and a jar of 'Preserved Ginger', &c. On the floor beside it is a huge volume: 'Doomsday Book', with other books, one being 'Arratin' [Aretino], another (open) 'A Master of Arts / a Fellow Feeling for the human Race'. With these are spectacles, cork-screw, long pipe, tobacco-jar. On the high chimney-piece are a nymph disrobing, candlestick, medicine-bottles, jug, and a framed 'Oxford almanack'. A scene in an artist's studio lit from an attic window (left). Four connoisseurs are grouped round a large canvas on an easel: an Apollo with a sheaf of arrows, head turned in profile to the left. The model is a tall black man in the pose of the Apollo but with very different features, the left hand holding the stick of a broom which supports the pose. A fifth connoisseur reaches up to alter the position of the model's head. The artist stands beside his canvas facing the invaders, the left hand, holding palette and brushes, rests on the canvas; he sucks his mahl-stick with a gloomy scowl. On the extreme right a cat sits in a cradle, behind which an alarmed little boy hides. The artist's wife, with an infant in her arms, faces the fire with her back to the visitors whose unwelcome intrusion is apparent. Behind is a bed with drawn curtains. Three casts from the antique decorate the bare room. The model's coat and hat lie on the ground (right). On the far left in the foreground a dog urinates against two canvases leaning against the wall

An enormous weathercock, with a huge dice for the base, stands mounted on top of a roof of a large building. Above its four arms with compass points is a dice box and another dice on top of it. From this dice protrude the heads of Charles Fox on the left and Lord North on the right. To the spike above them attached is a card with the knave of hearts. Fox's head, with a long barbed arrow coming out of his mouth, looks towards 'E' commenting on the failure of the East India bill. North's face is oriented toward 'N.' A huge fox's brush comes out of his mouth instead of the boreal blow

"George IV stands on the doorstep of a London house, his hat under his arm. Lord Conyngham, standing beside him, and bowing low, motions him towards the open door. The King asks: Is your Wife at Home, holding up his right hand so that the fingers simulate horns above the Marquis's head. The latter, who wears a court suit, answers: At your Service! Lady Conyngham peeps from a ground-floor window, saying, He's coming 'pon my Honour. John Bull (right), a sturdy fellow in ill-fitting brown wig and gaiters, and with a heavy cudgel for walking-stick, walks towards them along the pavement. He registers astonishment, saying, Dash my Wig! A footman looks up from the area (left), saying, Cuckoo and holding up two fingers derisively. "George IV, dressed as Henry VIII and with cavalry boots decorated with rosettes, sits on the throne (right), shrinking angrily from oxen wearing civic gowns who bow, presenting petitions. All the horns of the oxen are tipped with tiny caps resembling caps of Liberty; a slightly larger pair protects the prongs of a fork held up on the extreme left above the massed heads of the beasts. On this a placard is speared: 'Petitions from every Part of the World--(Hole's and Corner's excepted) to Dismiss the Ministers-- signed by upwards of 999,999--Millions of the Brute Creation.' The petitions of the four beasts in the front row are headed: 'Petition of Lord Mayor & Citizens of London to Dismiss Ministers'; 'Petitions from every part of England & Wales to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; '. . . ions from every Part of Scotland to Dismiss Ministers &c &c &c'; 'Petitions from every part of Ireland . . . [ut supra]'. Hooves rise from cattle behind holding more petitions: 'from Europe'; 'From Asia'; 'from Africa'; 'from America'; 'from every Honest Man'. The canopied throne is raised on a dais of three steps, the footstool is a cushion supported on a (carved) elephant; but the King's feet are drawn back. His right hand is on his hip; he holds an oddly shaped sceptre in the left hand. The back of the throne is framed by carved mannikins with shackled hands and feet; a large crown rests on the heads of the two uppermost. The back of the canopy has a pattern of writhing serpents. Ministers, much caricatured, stand on the right and left of the dais. In the foreground (right) and on the King's left, Wellington, with the apron and steel of a butcher (as in British Museum Satires No. 13288), with gauntlet gloves and with a star on his tunic, holds a blood-stained battle-axe. Sidmouth, as Court-fool, sits in profile to the left on an apothecary's mortar, wearing a double-peaked fool's cap and a star, and holding a bladder which is his clyster-pipe. Behind is Eldon, scowling savagely and holding the mace and the Purse of the Great Seal. A bishop holding a crosier stands on either side of the throne, behind the Ministers. A staff supports an emblematical cask which a naked Bacchus bestrides. On the King's right is Liverpool, holding a tall staff to which a green bag is tied (see British Museum Satires No. 13735). Next him is Castlereagh, blandly sinister, holding a scourge, and with a bunch of keys hanging from his belt; he stares at the petitioners. A tiny Vansittart is beside him, in his Chancellor of the Exchequer's gown, with an 'X' on his breast above a chequered pattern, hung diamond-wise. Immensely fat and absurd beefeaters stand along the back of the room under quasi-Gothic windows of stained glass. All hold tridents and turn their eyes towards the petitioners, grinning grotesquely. Each window is centred by an escutcheon on which a decanter is the chief object. The upper part of each is filled by a design of three large peacock's feathers (see British Museum Satires No. 13299). "A satire on Cambridge. The interior of a large room showing two sash windows, through one of which (left) is seen part of the south side of the Senate House, through the other, the tower of St. Mary's Church, both drawn with topographical accuracy. Between the two windows is a niche in which is a statue of Athene holding her shield; in her outstretched left hand is held out a laurel wreath towards some men beneath her who have entered from a door on the right. Her owl sits beside her on the stump of a tree. Beneath the title is etched, "dedicated to the illustrious Inheritress of her fame in Professors of Arts & Sciences, the University of Cambridge O Matre pulchra Filia pulchrior!" Immediately below Athene, and concealing the lower part of her draperies a man stands on a high rostrum covered with a cloth. He wears a furred academic gown and bands, and holds out a rolled document in his right hand. Immediately below the rostrum a man, not in academic dress, is seated at a table writing. He is in profile to the right looking towards four men who have entered from the right through an open door, apparently 'professors of Arts and Sciences', whose names he is recording. The foremost of these is a dancing-master who stands holding a bow in his right hand, a kit or small fiddle in his left. Next is a rough-looking elderly man wearing a round hat and long coat. The other two are middle-aged, one holding his hat and a cane and accompanied by a dog. On the left, and behind the chair of the man writing, are two other 'professors'; a fencing-master, wearing a fencing-jacket, stands in back view, turning his head in profile to the right, his left arm raised, holding his foil horizontally.
