Annotation in ink in Horace Walpole's hand, on a 2.5 x 7.6 cm piece of laid paper, window mounted below portrait: John Richardson, painter, by himself.
Provenance
Formerly owned by Horace Walpole with his annotations. Possibly part of the nineteen portfolios of English portraits broken up in the London sale (Strawberry Hill sale, 1842) and offered in lots 1-570, 601-728, containing one to forty or more prints each. Prints with Walpole's annotations are gathered under this call number for convenience rather than any solid evidence that this specific print was part of these lots.
