Abstract: 97 letters and cards. Delaney writes first from Yaddo in New York and then from Paris. Delaney's letters are primarily personal in nature with frequent comments about his philosophy of life and the value of friendship, and inquiries about mutual friends. Delaney also mentions his work, exhibits, and the sale of paintings in Wallrich's possession.
Description: Beauford Delaney (1901-1979), artist, was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1929 he moved to New York where he gained a reputation as a portraitist. Delaney spent the last 26 years of his life in Paris.
Larry Wallrich, founder of the Phoenix Bookshop in Greenwich Village, was a close friend of Delaney's and assisted him in the sale of his paintings in the United States.
