Signed by the artist in lower left corner of image.
Date of production based on the inclusion in the same volume of other drawings by Shepherd that depict the temporary building for the Strawberry Hill Sale of 1842.
Bound in as page 124 in volume 1 of Thomas Mackinlay's extra-illustrated copy of A catalogue of the classic contents of Strawberry Hill collected by Horace Walpole.
Provenance: Formerly owned by Thomas Mackinlay. Also owned by Sir Thomas William Boord, Bart., with his bookplate in the volumes. Sold at Sotheby's, Mrs. E.M. Copeman, lot 110, 3 June 1935, to W.S. Lewis.
