Abstract: Francis Goodchild shares the hymn book of his master's daughter as they sing the psalm at a service in a large church (St. Martin's-in-the-Fields) filled with pews; to the left, an elderly woman, the pew-opener, sits on a pile of hassocks. The minister stands in the three-decker pulpit; the reader and clerk are at their desks. The chandelier is decorated with a crown; the organ is shown in the background. The right of the frame is decorated with a scourge, manacles, and a hangman's rope; on the left frame, are the mace of the City of London, the alderman's gold chain, and a sword of state
