Description
- Title
- Ars magic, [circa 1780].
- Abstract
-
Manuscript, in a single secretary hand, of a treatise on the conjuration of angels. The manuscript begins with directions to conjure the airy spirits on Sunday, followed by instructions for conjurations on the other days of the week. Each entry includes a "perfume of the day." The volume also provides directions on how to draw the circle which will bind the angels; the benediction of the circle; and how to command spirits to depart. The work concludes with lists of angels by season, week, and hours. Astrological signs appear throughout, and the work also contains two astrological diagrams
The treatise is followed, in the same hand, by a play titled "The Chevalier's Progress, or Love's a Folly: a Tragi-Comedy by Samuel Hopley."
