- Abstract
-
"[Satire based on the fable of the "catspaw"]: a monkey with Talleyrand's head sits on a stool beside a stove clasping round the body a cat with Palmerston's head. He holds the cat's right paw in a fierce grip, forcing the frightened and reluctant creature to pick up chestnuts from the flat-topped stove, which is inscribed 'Holland'. The two biggest chestnuts are 'Belgium' and 'Antwerp'."--British Museum online catalogue
